The Suzuki S-Cross turns 20 and reaches 26,000 units sold in Spain
The Suzuki S-Cross has now been on the market for 20 years and, although it has not been a best-seller in Spain, it remains an efficient and capable compact crossover.

There are models that have been on the market for years and, although they have not been best-sellers, they remain benchmarks in their segment. The Suzuki S-Cross was born 20 years ago and has managed to sell 26,000 units in our country, while global sales have reached 750,000 units.
The model was conceived as a vehicle aimed at the European market, so it brings together the characteristics that make it desirable for drivers in our market. It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show, after going through the Italdesign studio, led by Giorgetto Giugiaro, under the name SX4, and it became the first compact crossover to be sold on the European market.

And although it was designed for European drivers, it eventually became a model sold all over the world. Production began in Hungary, India, Indonesia, China and Japan, where it became very popular with drivers in those regions.
It also took part in the rally championship under the name SX4 WRC, in 2008. It also received an extreme version, with 900 CV of power, which took part in the Pikes Peak hill climb.

Second generation
The second generation arrived in 2013, now under the name SX4 S-Cross. This name comes from Smart Crossover. The model grew to 4.30 metres and offered more interior space, with a boot that reached a capacity of 430 litres. This second generation was focused on the European market, and production was centralised at the Magyar Suzuki plant in Hungary.
It was available with several petrol and diesel engines, with manual or automatic gearboxes and four-wheel-drive versions. The driver could use four driving modes thanks to the ALLGRIP Select system. With this system the S-Cross sends torque to the rear wheels more effectively, preventing loss of traction.
It was in this second generation that the Boosterjet direct-injection turbo engines debuted, proving more efficient. A compact turbocharger was designed and positioned so as to eliminate any power delivery lag from the turbo, with an immediate response and a more agile driving experience.

This engine formed the basis for the 1.4-litre Boosterjet SHVS Mild Hybrid. It incorporated a 48-volt battery, a generator motor and a 48-to-12-volt converter. With this system 10 kW of extra power and 53 Nm of additional torque were added smoothly and efficiently.
Third generation
The Suzuki S-Cross arrived in 2021 from the Suzuki Italia Design Center studio in Turin. The Suzuki S-Cross remains well defined in this redesign, but has received more modern and current lines. The dashboard has been updated and a screen has been added for the instrumentation, with a 4.2-inch multifunction LCD display, and another screen dedicated to the infotainment system, measuring 9 inches.
The onboard technology has been increased and updated ADAS can be found, including a 360º camera, blind-spot monitoring, active steering and rear cross-traffic alert. The DSBS II package is also fitted as standard, with twelve driver-assistance systems that improve safety and usability.
The Suzuki S-Cross integrates Suzuki Connect, which allows interaction with the vehicle from the smartphone. It is available in nine versions, with three trim levels, with the Mild Hybrid engine and an optional automatic gearbox. It uses front-wheel drive or full-time ALLGRIP Select 4×4. Fuel consumption homologated under WLTP is from 5.4 litres per 100 kilometres, with CO2 emissions from 121 g/km.
