ID.3 Volkswagen Electric Cars Compact
The Volkswagen ID.X will be called ID.3 GTX and will arrive in 2024
The new electric model from Volkswagen will be based on the ID.X, a concept car presented a few months ago. It will be called ID.3 GTX and will feature all-wheel drive.

A few months ago, Volkswagen unveiled the ID.X prototype, which previewed a compact car that could go into production. And at the Munich Motor Show, which runs these days until September 11, it has been confirmed as a production model, although with some important changes as it moves into production. This was announced by Ralf Brandstätter, the brand’s top executive, and it has generated considerable expectation.
The main change, or at least the most visible one, is the name change. The model will arrive under the name ID.3 GTX and will switch from front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive. The aim is for this model to match the performance of the sporty R range of the German brand, so it will have quite sporty characteristics and improve on what the VW ID.3 offers.

Similar but not the same
The Volkswagen ID.3 uses the MEB platform. This allows front-wheel drive, although the future ID.3 GTX will have all-wheel drive. This means the platform will have to be modified and adapted to accommodate this type of drive. The drive system is also something familiar. It is possibly the same one seen in the ID.4 GTX, though with some evolution.
Bearing in mind that this model is noticeably larger than the ID.3, we will see how the drive system will take up more space in the ID.3. This will result in a reduction in interior space or boot capacity, something that will need to be taken into account. Power could reach 333 CV, which is also an increase over the ID.3.
Something drivers will like is the addition of the Drift driving mode, currently found in the Golf R, so the driver will feel this model’s power in their electric car. But all of this works against range, which will be reduced quite a bit. The battery shown in the ID.X is the same as the one in the ID.3, with a capacity of 77 kWh. There is no reason to think a different battery pack will be fitted, so that will be the key factor in determining range.
The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX will be ready for sale in 2024 and is expected to sit at the very top of the range.
