In a market where compact-dimensioned crossovers with diesel engines of not very many horsepower have more and more customers, purists feel let down. Society changes, and some people prefer a front-wheel-drive Ford EcoSport to a Ford Focus ST.

We agree that the SUV is more comfortable and considerably less “gastón” (if you buy it in diesel) than the compact sports car. We are not going to deny the undeniable. But the feeling of owning a perfectly useful car for everyday life, one that lets you tackle long journeys with ample cargo space and habitability and that will also take us from bend to bend with a smile on our face on any mountain road, is being lost.

The golden age of the “GTIs” was the 90s, but those cars were much harder to drive and less practical than today’s, which are considerably smoother, more efficient, more comfortable and safer. In any case, purists do not look kindly on the “conquest” the SUVs are carrying out. But, as they say, to each their own.

Anyway, it is best not to say “I’ll never drink from that water.” Or are we going to say that this Ford Ranger with M-Sport badging and modified by Carlex Design is not appealing?

This preparation has been carried out on a Ford Ranger, double cab, with a 3.2-litre diesel TDCi engine producing 200 hp and 470 Nm, paired with 4×4 traction. We don’t know whether the tuner has boosted the engine, but aesthetically they have done a fairly acceptable job.

On the exterior they have fitted a redesigned front grille, new bumpers, more voluminous wheel arches and 18-inch matt black alloy wheels. It may also feature an off-road kit that includes specific suspension raising the body 4.5 centimetres, LED lighting on the roof and a structural reinforcement.

In its cabin we also see a new look. The preparation features upholstery in leather specific to several parts of the cabin, improving the sense of quality, and darkened rear windows.

It is not an Ford F-150 with the American muscle of the legendary petrol engines of the brand, but the “retouched” European Ford Ranger can be a fairly interesting pick-up. It will reach the market from September and can be purchased at selected dealerships of the brand, although its price has not been made public.
