This Alpina B7 Turbo comes from an era when saloons could take on a Porsche 911

This BMW E28 boosted by Alpina is going to make you fall in love, and it could reach 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Would you make room for it in your garage?

Alpina has a long and illustrious history of turning BMW into rockets, and this BMW E28 B7 Turbo is no exception. In fact, this is one of the rarest classic super saloons ever created, and finding one is cause for celebration.

This specific Alpina B7 Turbo is one of the 278 units built, and apparently it is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, as shown on the Enthusiast Auto Group website where it is for sale. Don’t let the B7 badge fool you, since it was only later that Alpina decided to assign it to its cars based on the 7 Series of the Bavarian brand.

The listing goes on to say that this Alpina B7 Turbo was also the show car displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show in its year of debut. Finished in Schwarz Blue Metallic, the car lived in Japan until 2015, when it was imported and fully federalised in the United States.

Power comes from a 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine (code B7 / 3 for those in the know at the German brand), significantly improved by Alpina with things like lightweight pistons, a modified cylinder head, different camshafts, reprogrammed Motronic injection, a high-performance exhaust and, of course, a turbocharger. Alpina claimed no less than 325 CV and 520 Nm of maximum torque, which was simply stunning for a saloon of this period.

Alpina B7 Turbo, a gem that will make your hair stand on end

This boosted saloon is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds, while the top speed was set at 262 km/h. Modest numbers by today’s standards, but back then the Alpina B7 Turbo chewed up a Porsche 911 and spat it out behind it as if it were nobody’s business.

Other mechanical revisions included an Alpina oil cooler, a limited-slip differential, a larger fuel tank, bigger brakes and a set of 17-inch staggered wheels. The car is also equipped with Alpina’s rare and fully functional air conditioning system and an adjustable boost knob in the cabin, typical of the 1980s. This specific example is described as being in excellent condition, as its owner spared no expense on its maintenance. The odometer shows only 59,345 miles, or what amounts to 95,506 kilometres.

Super saloons would never reach the heights they do today if it weren’t for crazy people like Alpina working their magic back then, which is why this B7 Turbo deserves all the love it can get. Would you like to have it in your garage too? We are already looking for a space to lovingly look after it.
