Alarm at Volkswagen: a fault in the group's engines may cause fires
The existence of a fire risk has led to a recall of several units of the Lamborghini Urus, several models of Porsche and an Audi SQ7.

Recently, several electric car fires have been reported, something that has led several shipping companies to ban this type of vehicle from being transported on their ships. But fire risk does not only affect battery cars; it is a risk present in all vehicles, even, or especially, those running on traditional fuels.
Volkswagen has run into a rather serious problem, as fires and serious faults have been recorded in some engines across several brands in the group. The problem appears to be located in one of the corporation’s engine plants, where all the engines that have not been properly assembled are made, and which are creating risk situations.

It is not that many units are affected, but it is worrying. Among the brands most affected within Volkswagen is Porsche. Between 2024 and 2025, 107 units have been flagged for inspection for this reason. The affected units were Porsche Panamera, Panamera E-Hybrid and Cayenne. In this case, according to the company’s reports, the issue was a problem with the brackets that connect the high-pressure fuel pump to the engine.
This can cause a fuel leak and lead to a fire. This has not happened with a Porsche, but it has happened with another model from another brand in the group, which uses an engine assembled in the same factory. A Lamborghini Urus warned of the situation with a strong smell of fuel and an emergency warning light before a fire broke out.
A second Urus repeated the incident, although in this case there was no fire. However, the fuel leak meant that around 16 litres of fuel were found in the oil sump. There was no fire through sheer luck. The fault has been located, as mentioned, but the causes of why this happened are still under investigation.
Apparently, and after an initial investigation, a fault in the automated tool responsible for carrying out the adjustment of this component has been detected. Apparently, everything is due to a one-off fault that has only affected a few units of specific brands, those that use this type of engine.
Cases have been recorded in 14 Urus, one Audi SQ7 and some units of Porsche, so the recall has been small compared with others that have occurred before. Authorised workshops will inspect the engine and make sure the problem is under control. In addition, a safety protocol will be followed at the plant to prevent this from happening again.
