They are Portuguese, but they have been operating in Spain since 2003, and our country accounts for 25% of the total profitability of this automotive group, the largest on the Iberian Peninsula. And although the general public may be unaware that Caetano Retail is behind the management of such a sales volume, across so many centres and locations throughout the national and international geography, the figures are beyond question, and they have now been made public in Madrid, at a meeting with specialist media, among which was Highmotor.com.

To cite just one example, in 2022 Caetano Retail sold more than 27,000 new and used vehicles in Spain through its official dealerships, and welcomed more than 200,000 customers to its workshops, achieving turnover exceeding 700 million euros. It operates here with more than 500,000 m2 spread across 45 facilities, and more than 1,500 collaborators take part in its business.

This group represents 15 car brands in Spain and 25 between Spain and Portugal (Abarth, Alfa Romeo, BMW, BMW Motorrad, Dacia, Fiat, Jeep, KIA, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Smart and BYD), as well as the used-vehicle brand Carplus.

In the digital field, Caetano Retail has launched the subscription mobility platform Caetano Mobility and has integrated the rental car comparison site Pepecar.com into its structure, as part of its commitment to digitalisation and new forms of mobility, according to its managers.

Caetano Retail also forms part of the international automotive group Salvador Caetano, one of the main players in the national market, which is present in more than 36 countries and recorded 85,000 vehicles sold last year.

“Excellence and customer satisfaction, hand in hand with the brands”

The presentation of Caetano Retail’s results and future plans was given by Paulo Pereira, Country General Manager of Caetano Retail in Spain, Jaime Mingo, Chief Financial Officer, and Ricardo Ruiz de Adana, Marketing Director of the group in our country. After reviewing the company’s different business areas and its significant international presence, Pereira stressed that the main objective has always been to achieve “the best customer experience”, both since they began their activity and in the current moment of transformation in the sector, with challenges such as the emergence of the agency model, which has already been adopted by some manufacturers.

“We can never lose focus on our activity: we are a group of official dealerships that seeks excellence and maximum customer satisfaction as its differentiating value, meeting all of the manufacturers’ quality standards […]. Our main strategy is to work on improving the customer experience, but always hand in hand with the brands,” Pereira explained, citing some of the keys to the success that allows them to “remain at the forefront in a sector as competitive as the automotive industry”.

A diversified range of products and services

During the event, Caetano Retail’s managers outlined part of their plans for 2023, highlighting the incorporation of new brands, geographic expansion, a diversified range of brands and services, and their digitalisation.

Specifically, they also referred to the recent incorporation of the Stellantis Group into the Peugeot Caetano Motors dealership in Jerez, the purchase of a new dealership Nissan in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), the imminent opening of another BYD dealership in Málaga, and the company’s arrival in the Canary Islands with Renault and Dacia.
