Citroën 2CV: this is how an enthusiast reimagines the classic as an EV

Although Citroën is not considering it for the near future, a designer’s proposal brings the French classic into the 21st century as an EV.

We are living in a time of revival for old models as electric vehicles. From the Fiat 500 to the upcoming Renault 5, they will all have electric versions. But there is still a large market for this kind of converted vehicle. Unfortunately, some brands have no plans to include such vehicles in their lineup, bringing classic models back from the past. But in the case of the iconic Citroën 2 CV, it was an enthusiast, Dejan Hristov, who created an EV image for the French model.

The young designer used the classic model as a base and acknowledges that Citroën has used elements of the model in other electric vehicles launched in recent years, such as the C3, the C3 Pluriel, the REVOLTe Concept 2009 and the Ami quadricycle. But there has been no serious attempt to relaunch the model as an electric vehicle.

A proposal faithful to the original

The designer has kept the original look of the Citroën 2CV and made the most of the car’s iconic image. In the renderings by Hristov, the French model produced between 1948 and 1990 is perfectly recognizable, updated with modern design elements.

This includes the rounded roofline, the pronounced wheel arches and the easily recognizable bonnet. This model adds LED headlights and a rear light unit that spans the full width of the bodywork. A striking element is the cameras that replace the wing mirrors, placed at the rear of the sides. It remains to be seen whether manufacturers will adopt this as a future solution for their models.

The distinguishing detail is that the designer chose a crossover style. Wheels with greater ground clearance and a more modern design help offer a modern image and, while respecting the original, give the proposal a contemporary touch.

The equipment has also improved over the original car. The original had nothing beyond the basics, so technological additions are present in this proposal. It features an infotainment screen, air conditioning, electric windows and a suitable audio system.

The classic model’s size has grown to 4,241 mm, placing it in the range of the Peugeot 2008, which measures 4,301 mm in length. We know this is only the dream of an amateur designer, but with several classic models converted into electric versions about to appear… who knows whether we won’t soon see a real proposal from Citroën for the model?
