Daigo Saito, the professional drift driver, already has his new machine: a Toyota Supra A90 with the 2JZ engine under its hood
The new Toyota Supra A90 has been used as a guinea pig to receive a swap with the 2JZ engine, and the driver Daigo Saito has already made it a reality.

A few weeks ago, we told you about the clear intentions of an American company to swap the new Toyota Supra with the 2JZ powertrain, that is, the heart that gave life to the fourth-generation Japanese sports car. Well, only a few weeks of waiting were needed to see the first example in action, and it belongs to none other than Daigo Saito. If you are a fan of the world of motorsport and especially drifting, this name will surely sound familiar, since he is one of the most acclaimed professional drivers of all time.
However, Saito not only has a major success behind him as a professional racer, but he is now credited with having managed to further accentuate the Toyota DNA in the new Supra. To carry out this feat, the Japanese driver has turned to the engine known as the 2JZ, which is characterized not only by having powered the acclaimed Supra of the previous generation, but also by having been the undisputed protagonist of numerous modifications.
At first, we come across the bodywork of the new Supra A90, but with the relevant improvements to turn it into a true drifting machine. Wider wheel arches, newly cut rims painted green, roll bars and a hydraulic handbrake are some of the enchantments surrounding Daigo Saito’s Japanese sports car.

Through his Instagram we have been part of the evolution of this daring project that has generated so much anticipation, since there are many fans not only of the Supra MK4, but also of its engine and its capacity to hold even more power. After settling into the innards of Saito’s A90, we are aware that this engine has undergone a series of improvements that could allow it to deliver a power close to 800 CV.
Thanks to this video, we have also witnessed the ability to shift the rear of Daigo’s Toyota Supra. At the same time, this important swap is irrefutable proof for those fans of the brand who are satisfied with the synergies between BMW and Toyota, since they will be able to turn to that Japanese essence after making an as yet unknown outlay.

In this way, the most nostalgic fans of the era when illustrious names such as RX-7, Supra or Skyline reigned will be able to recover a piece of it and make it their own. Daigo Saito has been the first to venture this step, which implies not only an engine change, but also that of various mechanical components that are suited to the situation to provide a perfect and seamless whole.
