Genesis unveils the production version of the GV60 Magma high-performance SUV

The GV60 Magma that Genesis presented in March 2024 is no longer just a prototype, and we will soon be able to see its production version on the road.

Genesis has just announced what many fans of the South Korean luxury vehicle brand have long been waiting for. The high-performance version of its mid-size SUV, called GV60 Magma, will soon become a reality. With the new Magma series, Genesis aims to position itself not only as a benchmark for luxury, but also for extreme performance.

The GV60 Magma is, without a doubt, no conventional vehicle. Based on the E-GMP platform, like the rest of the group’s new-generation electric cars Hyundai, it features two electric motors that together deliver up to 448 kW and 740 Nm of torque, and can briefly reach up to 478 kW and 790 Nm of torque using the Boost Mode for a maximum of 15 seconds. Perfect for lightning-fast overtaking and leaving the rest of its rivals behind.

Its astonishing performance allows it to reach 200 km/h from a standstill in just 10.9 seconds using Launch Control, with a top speed of 264 km/h. No joke.

You won’t want to get out of the car

Like the high-performance models of the Hyundai N range, the GV60 Magma stands out for the technology it integrates with the sole purpose of enjoying the driving experience as much as possible. The Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system simulates the gear-shifting behavior of a sports car with a combustion engine, while Drift Mode distributes power and opens the rear electronic differential to facilitate controlled drifts. All of this while the High-Performance Battery Control maintains an optimal temperature for the battery pack so it can withstand the level of stress it is subjected to under extreme driving conditions.

Speaking of the battery pack, although Genesis has not yet confirmed its exact capacity, everything points to it being the same 84 kWh found in the IONIQ N series, which should allow it to cover just over 350 km in real-world conditions. This battery pack also stands out for its high performance when charging, needing just 18 minutes for the state of charge to go from 10 to 80 percent, with a maximum supported power of 350 kW.

To enhance its radical character, Genesis has reduced the ground clearance of this Magma edition by 20 mm compared to the standard GV60 and has also fitted it with noticeably wider wheel arches. The 21-inch wheels are also exclusive to this model, with 275 mm wide tyres to improve grip. Larger-diameter monobloc brakes, a fully recalibrated suspension, ECS electronically controlled dampers and the End-of-Travel system, which seeks the perfect balance between cornering stability and ride comfort, complete the special equipment of this high-performance version.

In terms of design, the GV60 Magma adds a prominent fixed rear spoiler, redesigned bumpers with larger air intakes, gloss black trim and the eye-catching Magma Orange colour as its signature. The cabin, meanwhile, combines luxury and sportiness with enveloping seats and panels upholstered in Chamude – a material similar to Alcantara – orange and grey stitching, and piano black and dark metal finishes. The instrument cluster also debuts Magma mode, with a three-circle graphic showing the temperature of both the motors and the battery pack, alongside speed and G-forces in real time.

The Genesis GV60 Magma will arrive at dealerships in South Korea in early 2026 and, throughout that same year, will also be available in Europe and North America.
