Italdesign shows its latest prototype through a hologram
The Volkswagen Group plans to expand the MEB+ platform, on which this prototype is based, and promises ranges of up to 700 kilometres in certain configurations and fast-charging capabilities of between 175 and 200 kW.
The renowned Italian design studio Italdesign unveiled an innovative prototype at the IAA Mobility, held last week in the German city of Munich. Under the name EVX, this prototype is an SUV developed on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform.
Displayed in holographic form during the event, with this model the Italian firm has sought to explore the limits and versatility of this electric platform.

Although the EVX is for now nothing more than a digital representation rather than a tangible reality, and there is no confirmation as to whether it will ever be put into production, its purpose is clear. That purpose is none other than to demonstrate the flexibility of the MEB+ platform when it comes to creating vehicles with a distinctive design.
Italdesign’s latest proposal
As can be seen in the images, we are looking at a three-door coupé-style compact SUV with a 2+2 configuration. With dimensions of 4.23 metres long, 1.82 metres wide and 1.49 metres high, and a wheelbase of 2.6 metres, this model sits in a segment above the current production models of the Volkswagen Group based on the same platform, such as the ID. Polo, the Cupra Raval, the ID. Cross or the Skoda Epiq, all considered compact vehicles.
For example, the Cupra Raval, the model closest to series production, has slightly smaller dimensions, with a length of 4.05 metres, a width of 1.78 metres and a height of 1.52 metres. The EVX is clearly a somewhat larger vehicle, with a sportier silhouette, and it differs from the other mentioned models based on the MEB+ platform through its coupé design.

Although, as we have said, the EVX was not designed for production, Italdesign has carried out a preliminary study that confirms its feasibility should it decide to take this route. In any case, it would not be surprising if in the more or less near future we saw a compact SUV like this on the market.

The Volkswagen Group has great ambitions for its electric strategy, with plans to launch ten new models based on the MEB platform before 2026 and to produce up to 10 million electric vehicles on the MEB and MEB+ platforms in the long term. Prototypes like the EVX, although not intended for immediate production, play a very important role in showing the potential of their design and the technical possibilities of the platform.
