Koenigsegg drops the three-cylinder engine from the Gemera: nobody wants it in its supercar
The supercar initially used a three-cylinder engine, but most buyers chose the more powerful 5.0-litre V8 option.

Few cars are as striking as the Koenigsegg Gemera. This model is a hybrid, conceived as a spectacular supercar featuring a highly efficient engine with a very interesting characteristic. It uses a three-cylinder engine, which delivers a considerable 600 CV and a maximum torque of 600 Nm. Furthermore, this powerful engine is supported by two electric motors, which makes the total output much higher.
Overall, the hybrid system delivers a total output of 1,400 CV and a maximum torque of 1,850 Nm. So it is a supercar that offers everything we expect from a vehicle of this kind. But it has one problem: nobody wants a three-cylinder engine in their supercar.

Apparently, nobody wants an ordinary three-cylinder engine powering their supercar, even if it offers more than enough power to fulfil its role. This was not the case from the start, as several units equipped with this engine were sold. However, the brand offered the option to swap the three-cylinder engine for a V8, and that is when most buyers made the switch.
The 5.0-litre V8 engine offered as an option has become the first choice of anyone wanting a Gemera in their garage. Its power makes the other engine look weak, since combined with the other motors it produces 2,300 CV and a maximum torque of 2,750 Nm.
Even so, there were buyers who kept asking for the smaller engine. To lower costs, and considering that this is a car on which buyers can spend the difference in money between the two engines, the company persuaded those who opted for the three-cylinder engine to choose the other one instead. Incidentally, this figure represents an increase of 400,000 dollars over the selling price.
For now, the 2.0-litre engine has been ruled out, although it is an interesting idea for those who would drive a car equipped with it. Koenigsegg may continue working on the engine and eventually use it in another model in the near future.
