Daimler AG has presented a new version of its legendary Class G off-roader, the G350 with BlueTec technology, completing the range alongside the 350CDI. What sets this new model apart is that it adopts the injection of a urea solution into the exhaust gases, improving emissions through the “purification” of the exhaust gases, as we have seen in other models from the brand on previous occasions.

This process includes a small tank of urea solution that lasts around 12,000 kilometres; through the process, the injected urea together with the exhaust gases is reduced inside the catalytic converter, turning into water and nitrogen in very small quantities, achieving a reduction of toxicity in the gases of approximately 80%.

Of course, this vehicle is not all about cutting emissions, as its off-road abilities also stand out. To begin with, the torque of the diesel engine is more than sufficient for departures off normal roads, although if you want, there are two more V8 engines on offer, including the AMG unit. Once we take the G350 off the road, three different systems come into action to help keep the vehicle firm and stable, such as the 4ETS traction control, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and three differential ratios selectable from the controls. The task of changing gears is handled by the 7G-Tronic transmission, a 7-speed automatic.

The G-Class is probably the least aerodynamic car in the world, quite literally “a brick”. However, it is an off-roader par excellence with many years already on the market, and it is already applying other types of engine management solutions, an authentic Panzer from Mercedes-Benz.
