New details emerge about the 2026 Nissan Leaf, including its price in Europe

In principle, the new 2026 Nissan Leaf will reach European streets and roads at the start of next year, although the Japanese manufacturer will open its order books a few months earlier.

Following its official presentation last June, Nissan has now revealed new details about the third generation of the Leaf, whose sales in Europe will most likely begin before the end of this year, with deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

Initially, Nissan was expected to start accepting orders for the new Leaf this very autumn, but a shortage of batteries caused by some minor production issues at its Tochigi plant in Japan has changed the planned timetable. Although the new third-generation Leaf that will be seen in Europe will be produced at the British plant in Sunderland with locally produced batteries, the delay in its launch in Japan has also affected the European launch.

As we already know, the new 2026 Leaf has evolved in line with market trends, becoming a compact crossover to better meet the needs of a greater number of customers. It will also be available with two battery options. The higher-capacity version with 75 kWh will offer a homologated WLTP range of 622 km, instead of the 604 km initially announced as an estimate. Meanwhile, the standard 52 kWh battery promises an estimated WLTP range of 440 km, although the official homologated figure is not yet known.

With the higher-capacity battery, the price of the 2026 Nissan Leaf in Germany will come close to 42,000 euros. That is 5,000 euros more than the same model fitted with the standard-capacity battery, whose base price will start slightly below 37,000 euros.

Other things to keep in mind

Nissan has also revealed other noteworthy details worth mentioning. The Japanese manufacturer states that with the 75 kWh battery the 2026 Leaf can cover up to 330 km on the motorway at a speed of 130 km/h. This figure will obviously vary depending on the weather, the wind and the gradient of the terrain. It also states that if speed is reduced to 110 km/h, the range increases by 100 km, up to 430 km.

As for its technical specifications, the 75 kWh version has an electric motor on the front axle delivering 160 kW of power, while the version with the 52 kWh battery limits this figure to 130 kW. Both versions reach a top speed of 160 km/h, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 and 8.3 seconds respectively. The estimated consumption is 13.8 kWh per 100 km travelled in both cases.

Not everything you saw will come as standard

Nissan will publish the official price lists and reveal all the details about the equipment available in both versions shortly before orders open. In any case, it has been leaked that some elements such as the front light bar or the adjustable glass roof, which we saw in the promotional images, will not be included as standard equipment. Likewise, the 19-inch alloy wheels seen in those same images will not be the ones fitted as standard, but rather 18-inch ones, so it should be noted that the range figures we mentioned earlier will only be achieved with the latter.

Finally, it should be pointed out that the new 2026 Leaf uses the AmpR Medium platform, previously known as CMF-EV, the same one used by the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric, but with some important innovations. Among them, it is worth mentioning the higher energy density of the battery pack cells, which is what has made it possible to increase its capacity to 75 kWh, compared with the 60 kWh battery pack capacity of the French electric car. All this despite the wheelbase of both models being the same, 2.69 metres.
