New Ford Puma ST Powershift: electrified and with the DGT ECO label

Ford presents the new Ford Puma ST Powershift with the 1.0 EcoBoost engine equipped with mild hybrid technology, a sporty SUV that delivers 170 CV of power and carries the DGT ECO label.

Ford Puma St 3

The Ford Puma ST with the 1.5 EcoBoost engine producing 200 CV and a six-speed manual gearbox has gained an “ECO” sibling: the new Puma ST Hybrid 1.0 Powershift. A model that keeps the eye-catching sporty look of the more powerful version, as well as a chassis setup tuned for the most dynamic driving.

But on this occasion, with the most powerful version of the three-cylinder 1.0 engine from Ford, which also features mild hybrid technology. And as an added bonus, it also comes with the Powershift dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

With the Ford Performance seal

Like every Ford wearing the ST badge, the Puma ST Hybrid 1.0 Powershift guarantees efficiency and driving fun thanks to the hand of Ford Performance. And the small three-cylinder engine does not disappoint at all: the mild hybrid system not only provides greater efficiency here and allows the DGT ECO label to be obtained, it also helps improve the engine’s performance. There are 170 CV of power and a maximum torque of 248 Nm, which allow the small sporty SUV to reach a top speed of 210 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds, with an approved average consumption of 6.3 l/100 km.

For reference, the figures for the Puma EcoBoost 1.5 manual, which with 200 CV reaches 220 km/h and goes from a standing start to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, although this model also boasts efficiency without the help of electrification, since its average consumption of 6.6 l/100km is nothing to sniff at.

Ford offers a clear example of how far they have taken the three-cylinder 1.0, which is used in other versions of the range also with mild hybridisation but tops out at 155 CV. With its 170 CV, this new version of the Puma matches the power of the 2002 Focus ST, a 2-litre four-cylinder.

The 7-speed Powershift transmission also receives specific adjustments, allowing triple downshifts and a Stop and Go function so that the adaptive cruise control can bring the car to a complete stop and restart automatically in slow-moving traffic.

A tailored chassis for the sportiest Puma

Compared with the Puma 1.0 EcoBoost, the ST uses thicker anti-roll bars and a rear torsion beam with 50% greater stiffness. The springs and Hitachi monotube dampers are also specific to this version, while the steering is 25% more direct. The selective torque vectoring system Torque Vectoring Control also contributes to greater agility when the road gets twisty.

The brakes have also been reworked, using the same equipment as the more powerful Puma ST, with 325 mm front discs (almost 20% larger than on the Puma 1.0) and 271 mm rear discs. What the “small” Puma ST does not get is the Quaife limited-slip differential of its bigger brother.

Ford Puma St 2

It does stand out as a very special version thanks to its front splitter with the Ford Performance logo, which looks great and helps increase downforce on that axle. A rear spoiler and diffuser are also included, 19-inch alloy wheels in Magnetite finish with Continental Sport Contact 7 tyres in 225/40 ZR sizes, and among the six body colours available, the distinctive Azura blue is included, which looks superb paired with the gloss black roof.
