Ford has announced that it has already added to the new Mondeo range the engines and all-wheel drive it had planned to launch in early 2015, as it confirmed at the outset when the saloon went on sale in Europe. The engine line-up will now consist, excluding the hybrid version, of three petrol and four diesel units, that is, two more than before.

The EcoBoost with one-litre and 125 CV represents the new entry point to the model. It is only available with the six-speed manual gearbox and, according to Ford, in this configuration it achieves a combined consumption of 5.1 litres per 100 kilometres and emits 119 grams of CO2 per kilometre. The Mondeo 1.0 EcoBoost accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in twelve seconds and reaches 200 km/h.

The second novelty is the replacement of the 1.6 TDCi with 115 CV by the new 1.5 TDCi with 120 CV. It features more efficient high-pressure injectors, a redesigned combustion chamber and Variable Nozzle Turbocharger technology. Like the previous engine, this one is also paired with the six-speed manual transmission, with which it consumes 4 l/100 km and emits 104 g/km of CO2.

At the top of the range is the 210-horsepower version of the 2.0 TDCi. This unit is fitted with two turbochargers: the smaller turbine operates at low speeds and the larger one, capable of withstanding higher pressure, when the engine runs at high revs. Combined with the six-speed Powershift dual-clutch automatic gearbox, this Mondeo needs 7.9 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, consumes 4.8 l/100 km and emits 124 g/km of CO2.

As for the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, it is offered with the TDCi units of 150 and 180 CV, the former coupled to the six-speed manual gearbox and the latter to the dual-clutch Powershift. The consumption and emissions figures for the 150 CV TDCi with all-wheel drive are identical to those of the 210 CV Biturbo; the 180 CV variant with this drive records a combined consumption of 5.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 134 g/km.
