The Lamborghini Urus SE raises its performance and sportiness with the Performante version

The Lamborghini Urus SE, the plug-in hybrid range, will now also be available in the sporty Performante version

The Lamborghini Urus SE was presented a couple of years ago with the ECO label from the DGT, as the most powerful plug-in hybrid on the market, a clear sign of its intentions. However, it seems that Lamborghini customers found it a little lacking, which is why the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand is presenting the Performante version, a designation that is already familiar for this high-performance SUV.

At first glance, the Lamborghini Urus SE Performante will stand out from the conventional versions with a more sporty and eye-catching exterior design, partly due to the extensive use of carbon fibre; in fact, it uses more of it than any other Urus. The changes are visible from the front, with a new carbon-fibre bonnet as well as larger omega-shaped front air intakes that improve aerodynamics and cooling of components, along with a front splitter. The bonnet and bumper intakes, together with the dedicated side outlets and enlarged openings inside the wheel arches, work as an S-Duct, achieving a 22% increase in aerodynamic downforce on the front axle alone.

The same idea has been applied at the rear, with a newly designed carbon-fibre spoiler mounted in a higher position, as is the case with the diffuser, which is also new and larger and serves to enhance the sporty character of the Lamborghini Urus SE Performante. In this area, Lamborghini has also drawn inspiration from one of its most legendary models, the Countach, incorporating hexagonal geometries that give it a unique identity, as does the new titanium exhaust system developed by Lamborghini in collaboration with Akrapovič, which, besides delighting us with its sound, also helps reduce weight by 10 kilos.

Moving inside, Lamborghini has fitted the Urus SE Performante with a new 12.3-inch screen featuring an improved interface and updated graphics inspired by the Revuelto, which includes a dedicated telemetry system and screens related to driver assistance systems. In terms of design, it receives new upholstery on the door panels, seats and dashboard, along with new Y-shaped anodised aluminium air vents, not to mention the centre tunnel with a completely new mechanical control panel inspired by the world of aviation.

Mechanically, the Lamborghini Urus SE Performante continues to use the plug-in hybrid powertrain made up of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and a permanent-magnet electric motor, now delivering a combined output of 812 CV and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm, figures that represent an increase of 146 CV and 150 Nm over the previous Urus Performante. It can also accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 312 km/h. The engine’s behaviour can be adjusted through the various driving modes, while all this power is transmitted to the road through 22- or 23-inch wheels, at the customer’s choice, fitted with specific Pirelli P Zero tyres.

From a dynamics standpoint, we must not forget that the Urus SE Performante is equipped with the six-degree 6D sensor that debuted on the Fenomeno, located close to the centre of gravity, whose function is to measure parameters related to accelerations along the three spatial axes and the angular velocities associated with pitch, roll and yaw movements. It also features the AURA system with 2K2V dual-chamber air suspension, capable of radically transforming its character by acting simultaneously on both the spring element and the damping system.
