The Nissan Patrol is being renewed, but we still won't see it in Europe

The Nissan Patrol is being renewed for 2025, both for the Middle East version and for the United States market, where it is known as Armada.

It has been some time since we last had it on the European market, but the Nissan Patrol remains a model that brings back very good memories. So the news that this off-roader has been completely renewed to welcome 2025 is a welcome one. Buyers of this model in the United States and Canada know it as the Nissan Armada, while in the Middle East it is still the well-known Patrol. The look does change in this new version, though.

Even so, although the Japanese company is announcing the new Armada, the Patrol may have some aesthetic differences compared to the first one. All of them will share a similar design language and will be recognisable as members of the same family. From the outset, the Patrol will share many elements with the Infiniti QX80. In principle, it will have a ladder frame chassis with cross members, as it does until now.

As far as the exterior is concerned, the newly presented Patrol features a square and powerful design. A V-shaped grille dominates the front, with two lines running from the emblem out to each side. The headlights extend to the full width of the front end and make it look wider thanks to their C-shaped design.

The rear lights also have a distinctive style. They are placed vertically and are joined together by a thin LED light strip, with the model name in the centre. On the side, you can see the 22-inch alloy wheels and a C-pillar that is wider and gives the off-roader a more personal touch.

A small detail present in this new generation of the Patrol becomes visible when you open the front door. On the ground, an image is projected that includes the caption “Since 1951“, highlighting the model’s long history. Inside, the Monolith screen system will be used, made up of two 14.3-inch screens.

Engines

The engine range of the new Patrol will be built around a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6. This produces 425 CV and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. As an option there is another version of the same engine, without turbos, which produces 316 CV and 386 Nm of torque.

These engines will be paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox and, of course, four-wheel drive.

The bad news, though, is that Europe remains outside the plans of Nissan for marketing the Patrol, so we won’t be seeing it on our roads. A shame, because there are many off-road enthusiasts who would love to get behind the wheel of an updated version of the much-missed Patrol.
