The renewed MG4 finally arrives in Europe
The British manufacturer refers to the second-generation MG4 as an elegant, spacious and city-optimised vehicle.
Almost five months after MG Motor carried out the first deliveries of the second-generation MG4 in China, the British brand, now under the control of the Chinese giant SAIC Motor, has decided to begin selling this compact electric car in Europe, starting for the moment exclusively in the United Kingdom, due to the brand’s strong ties to this country and the good reception its vehicles enjoy there.
In the British market, MG Motor has introduced a new version of the MG4 to kick off its sales, called MG4 Urban. This version features a single electric motor on the front axle, paired with a battery pack of just 43 kWh capacity, which allows costs to be reduced so that it can be offered to the British public with a base price of £23,495 – just over 27 thousand euros at the current exchange rate. The MG4 Urban thus becomes one of the most affordable electric models on the British market.

Compared with the first-generation MG4 that we all know, this new model is somewhat larger, at almost 11 centimetres longer. It is also 6 millimetres wider and almost 5 centimetres taller, with its wheelbase increased by 4.5 centimetres. Despite being larger, it is nonetheless lighter on the scales. This last point is explained by the fact that its battery pack is integrated directly into the chassis as “cell-to-body“, which reduces the weight of the whole by around 150 kg compared with the first-generation MG4, which used a conventional battery pack.
Availability in the United Kingdom
It is important to point out that in the United Kingdom the first- and second-generation MG4 will coexist for a while, with this new MG4 Urban version being the entry point to the range at a more accessible price. MG Motor is also selling the MG4 Urban with three trim levels, which we list below:
–Comfort Standard Range. The aforementioned entry model with a 43 kWh battery pack, a WLTP range of 323 km, a 110 kW motor on the front axle and fast charging of up to 150 kW, for £23,495.
–Comfort Long Range. With a battery pack that increases capacity to 54 kWh and its WLTP range to 415 km, the motor is also somewhat more powerful at 118 kW, with a recommended retail price of £25,495 – just over 29 thousand euros at the current exchange rate.
–Premium Long Range. With the same 54 kWh battery pack and the same WLTP range, but with a higher level of equipment and a higher price, rising to £27,495.

Finally, it should be noted that the first-generation MG4 has been updated for this new 2026 model year and continues to be sold on the British market in the versions with the greatest range and performance, including the XPower with all-wheel drive.
When will the new MG4 arrive in the rest of Europe?
For now there is no official confirmation of the arrival of the second-generation MG4 in other European markets, such as Germany, where the original MG4 starts at €34,990 with a 49 kWh battery. A dual-range strategy similar to the British one could be possible, but at present no information on this exists.
The imposition of special tariffs by the European Union on electric vehicles imported from China, especially high in the case of SAIC, may be a significant obstacle hindering the sale of this model in this market. We will be watching to see how MG Motor deals with this difficulty.
