Volkswagen Golf GTI Carbon Edition, a new concept
Volkswagen could be preparing a Golf GTI as light and good as the original

Everything surrounding the Volkswagen Golf VII is simply a mystery. Since the first spy images appeared until it was officially unveiled last week, we still don’t know it as much as we would like. And apart from the GTI and R variants, an ultra-light and sporty edition of the German compact is expected.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, after a long time Volkswagen will finally make a true sports compact again. Powerful, light and very fast. That is exactly what we needed. For now it is only a rumour after a prototype was seen testing in Germany.
This unofficial information even claims that this Golf will use materials as light as aluminium or carbon fibre with the sole aim of becoming as good as the original GTI. In fact, a reduction of 200 kg compared with the model that has just been presented is expected.
In this way, the 225 CV of power expected from the two-litre supercharged engine that will accompany every GTI variant could reduce the 0-100 km/h time to under 6 seconds.
Why would we want a car with more than 340 CV like the 1 Series M Coupé or its rival the Audi RS3 Sportback if in the end they turn out to be heavier than an average saloon? Perhaps not everyone agrees with me, but most enthusiasts and lovers of motoring want a manageable and fast car, where that speed is not achieved through power alone.
For the first time in my life I will admit that the old Jeremy Clarkson is right about something. Weight spoils everything. A light car improves performance, cornering and drastically reduces fuel consumption. Power alone cannot solve those problems, or else just ask the Bugatti Veyron and its lap times.
The future of sports cars does not lie in supercharging, as is happening in most cases. The future lies in lighter materials such as the carbon fibre used by the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. It is true that it is very expensive, but it is better to invest in all the benefits of lightness than to do so in creating engines capable of moving space aircraft.

Comparto todo lo expuesto, con menos peso se gana en mucho puntos, con mayor potencia solo se gana en algunos.
Un saludo.
