BMW begins accepting orders in Europe for the rear-wheel-drive version of the new iX3
With the new iX3 40 rear-wheel drive, BMW aims to broaden its target audience without giving up the dynamic character of its first Neue Klasse model.
About nine months after starting to accept orders for the BMW iX3 50 xDrive, the Bavarian manufacturer has finally opened the configurator for a more affordable new version of its first Neue Klasse model. The new iX3 40 has a single motor on the rear axle and lowers its base price to 63,650 euros in Spain, 8,200 euros less than the top all-wheel-drive version.
The new iX3 40 features the sixth generation of BMW’s eDrive system. Its only electric motor, located on the rear axle, delivers up to 235 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque. This model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and its top speed is limited to 200 km/h.

The electric motor is paired with an 82.6 kWh battery pack, which allows it to travel up to 637 km on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle. This range is lower than that of the iX3 50 xDrive, whose battery has a larger 108 kWh capacity and therefore offers a WLTP range of 805 km.
When charging at a DC fast-charging point, the new iX3 40 accepts peaks of up to 300 kW, allowing the state of charge to rise from 10 to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. For AC charging, this version comes standard with an 11 kW onboard charger, with the option of a 22 kW charger for an additional 790 euros. It is also worth noting that it features bidirectional charging and comes standard with Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functions, while Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) is only available with the optional 22 kW charger mentioned above.
It Lacks for Nothing
The standard equipment of the new iX3 40 is very comprehensive. It includes LED headlights and taillights, BMW Digital Key Plus, electrically foldable exterior mirrors, a 58-litre front trunk, electrically adjustable front seats with memory, a rear-view camera with panoramic view, a parking assistant and rear cross-traffic alert, among other features.

In terms of design, the iX3 40 is practically identical to the top 50 xDrive version, while also maintaining the same level of equipment. The two versions currently on sale of the iX3 come from BMW’s new plant in the Hungarian town of Debrecen, where production is already running on two shifts due to strong demand.
