GLB Mercedes Electric Cars SUV
Mercedes-Benz reveals some details of the new electric GLB ahead of its presentation
The new GLB with EQ technology promises greater efficiency and range, along with a spacious interior, just as the German manufacturer’s customers demand.
Mercedes-Benz is putting the final touches on the official presentation of the new all-electric GLB, which will take place on this coming 8 December, with the aim of the first deliveries taking place at the beginning of 2026. This model is set to replace the current EQB, which the German manufacturer has already begun to remove from its product lineup in anticipation of the arrival of its successor.
The new GLB will initially be marketed exclusively with an electric drive system, under the name GLB with EQ technology, although later Mercedes-Benz will offer a light 48V hybrid version.

Although its dimensions do not allow it to be correctly classified as a compact SUV, it is also not large enough to enter the mid-size SUV category, ending up somewhere halfway between the two. Currently, Mercedes-Benz engineers are completing the performance tests of this electric SUV, subjecting it to tests at extreme temperatures.
Unfazed by bad weather
The results obtained so far appear very positive. For example, it has been verified that in intense cold the interior warms up in half the time it takes in the current EQB, using half the energy. The cabin heating process starts automatically when entering the vehicle. Likewise, the tests show that defrosting an iced-over windscreen at a temperature of around minus 20 degrees Celsius takes just 15 minutes.

All of this has been made possible by the integration of a high-performance heat pump, the result of the know-how that Mercedes-Benz engineers gained during the development of the Vision EQXX prototype. This advanced component uses outside air and the residual heat from the battery and motor to warm the cabin, improving efficiency and increasing the vehicle’s range, so that it ends up reaching close to 700 km under optimal conditions.
Technical specifications we already know
Based on the MMA platform, the same one used by the new CLA, the GLB with EQ technology also features an 800V architecture that allows it to support a charging power of up to 320 kW in direct current. In this way, the German manufacturer claims it is possible to increase the state of charge of its 85 kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.
Mercedes-Benz will market two rear-wheel-drive versions, the GLB 200 and GLB 250+. The first, which will be the entry-level version, will be fitted with an LFP battery pack with a capacity of 58 kWh, while the second will feature the aforementioned 85 kWh pack. Additionally, the GLB 350 4MATIC with all-wheel drive will integrate a dual electric motor setup, delivering a combined 265 kW of power.

On the inside, the new GLB will also debut the panoramic Superscreen already seen in the CLA, with the fourth generation of MBUX and a floating centre console. This new electric SUV will also feature an impressive illuminated panoramic roof, offering passengers more headroom and legroom in the second row of seats. Mercedes-Benz will offer versions with five or seven seats, with a sliding rear bench fitted as standard on the long-wheelbase version.

Although the German manufacturer has published the image you can see above of the vehicle’s interior, for now the exterior remains camouflaged and will not be revealed, barring a surprise, until the day of its presentation on this coming 8 December.
