Not buying an electric vehicle in Norway today makes you a true oddball.
The market share of electric vehicles last June in this Nordic country stood at 96.5 percent.
In June 2026, Norway once again demonstrated that the transition to electric mobility is already a consolidated reality there. Last month, 18,875 new fully electric vehicles were registered in this Nordic country, which represented an impressive 96.5 percent of all new passenger car registrations. The total number of passenger vehicles registered that same month reached 19,558, 6.4 percent more than in June of the previous year.
During the first half of 2026, the market share of electric vehicles rose even further, to 97.6 percent, despite the overall passenger car market contracting slightly. In addition, the country reached a historic milestone: its electric vehicle fleet surpassed one million units.

The Tesla Model Y remains the best-selling model in the country in June, with 2,257 units, followed by the KIA Niro (1,031), the Tesla Model 3 (961), the Toyota Urban Cruiser (897) and the Volvo EX30 (696). In terms of brands, Tesla led with 3,222 registrations and a 16.5 percent market share. However, the Model Y’s lead was smaller than in June of the previous year, which reflects a greater diversification of the market. Buyers no longer choose mainly between electric and combustion, but between different brands, models, prices and uses.
“This indicates that the electric vehicle market is entering a new phase in Norway. Competition is intensifying among the various options available.”
Surprisingly, several rural regions outpaced the capital in electric adoption. Telemark reached 99.8 percent and Rogaland 99 percent, while Oslo recorded 93.7 percent and Akershus 92 percent. These data show that electric mobility is no longer an exclusive phenomenon of large cities, but has spread throughout the entire territory.

Situation of the Norwegian market in the first half of the year
On the other hand, in the first six months of the year 73,403 new passenger cars were registered, which is 2.8 percent less than in the same period of 2025. Of these, 71,661 were electric, with a market share of 97.6 percent. The Model Y accumulated 11,132 units in that period, maintaining a clear lead.
The momentum is also evident in light commercial vehicles. Although total registrations fell 7.8 percent, electric vans grew 11.3 percent, reaching a share of 54.5 percent.

Finally, it should be noted that although all these data are surprising, the transition to electric mobility still has a long way to go in Norway, where seven out of every ten vehicles in the total fleet are still petrol or diesel.
