The BMW M2 will be available for the first time with M xDrive all-wheel drive

From August onwards, anyone who wants it will be able to order the BMW M2 with the M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system, just as already happens with its M3 and M4 siblings

For some years now, BMW has offered the option of configuring the M3 or M4 with M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive as an optional extra, a solution that now also arrives for the first time on the smallest member of the M family, the BMW M2, which offers a different and perhaps more effective way to make use of the great power of this beastly sports car.

The M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system uses a multi-plate clutch that is electronically controlled through the transfer case, achieving a fully variable and smooth distribution of power between the front and rear wheels. Overall, it also works together with the M active differential, the M-specific traction control and the DSC, adapting the vehicle’s response in real time to deliver a much more dynamic and safer driving experience.

But there is no need to worry: despite being a conventional all-wheel-drive system, and just as with its bigger siblings, the BMW M2 xDrive retains a character clearly oriented towards the rear axle. In other words, in normal driving conditions power is sent only to the rear axle, and only when that axle reaches its limit does the system engage the front axle. Thanks to this, the BMW M2 becomes a sports car that is far more usable, in the sense that it can be driven in any conditions throughout the year without compromising the performance of the 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder which, in the M2, delivers 480 CV.

The new BMW M2 xDrive will be available to order from next August, and to coincide with its arrival the German brand also announces the availability of the BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue colour for the M2 for the first time. Furthermore, let us recall that the engines of the M2 will also start to incorporate BMW M Ignite technology, which we have already told you about and which, in short, is a technology taken from competition that significantly reduces consumption under high-load conditions (especially noticeable in circuit sessions) and allows compliance with the EU7 regulations.
