The definitive Honda Civic Type R showcases its aerodynamic features

Honda used 2014 to showcase two prototypes of the new Civic Type R, previewing its main characteristics. We saw the first one in March at the Geneva Motor Show and the second in October in Paris. This year the sports compact will return to the Swiss show, but this time in definitive form.
Not wanting to break with tradition, the Japanese brand has chosen to reveal its design piece by piece, starting with the aerodynamics and certain elements that will identify the most powerful and brutal Civic. In truth, there are not many surprises, as it was already known that changes compared to the prototypes would be minimal. The first images only reveal front fog lights instead of LED light bars, and a slightly different wheel design.

Honda stresses that the high downforce the Civic Type R generates has been achieved thanks to components such as the rear spoiler, whose wing shape and structure have been carefully studied, and the rear diffuser, which works together with the underbody to channel the airflow. It also notes that the front bumper design helps to minimise turbulence around the wheels and thus reduce the air resistance it creates.
The two-litre turbocharged VTEC engine achieves greater cooling and ventilation thanks to the larger grilles and the air intakes in the front fins and behind the wheel arches. To stop the 280 CV this engine produces, which will allow the Civic Type R to reach 270 km/h (figure pending homologation), the compact will be fitted with Brembo brakes developed specifically for this version, with perforated discs measuring 350 mm in diameter at the front wheels.

The Japanese manufacturer also points out that the definitive Type R we will see in Geneva will no longer wear the red or blue paint of the prototypes, but the famous Championship White shade that has adorned virtually every previous generation of the Honda high-performance compact.
