The new Honda CR-V arrives in Spain with the 1.5 VTEC Turbo engine from €29,900
Following its presentation at the Geneva Motor Show, the fifth generation of the Honda CR-V announces its arrival in Spain in October with the 1.5 VTEC Turbo petrol engine

Last spring Honda announced a new generation for the already veteran CR-V. The first generation of the CR-V reached various markets back in 1995, although it was not until 1997 that this SUV arrived on our roads, where it has remained to this day. Since the launch of its first generation, the Honda CR-V has enjoyed wide acceptance, becoming the best-selling SUV in the world, with 60,000 units sold in our country throughout its history.
Now the Honda CR-V reaches its fifth generation, a generation we were able to see a few months ago during the Geneva Motor Show, and which is now ready to arrive in our country and in the rest of the European markets. It will do so with several novelties, as was to be expected when a model undergoes a deep redesign, perhaps with particular attention to its interior and its engines.
We have already told you about all the changes to the Honda CR-V’s exterior, but by way of a reminder, the new generation reinforces its image as an SUV, now looking more muscular and robust. This presence is strengthened by wider wheel arches and much more defined lines, especially on the bonnet and rear panels, all complemented by a front end that now resembles the latest presentations from the Japanese brand.
The interior has also been improved, with a cleaner and more modern design in line with the latest market trends, without losing the Japanese touch. However, perhaps the most notable aspect of the new Honda CR-V’s interior is that special work has been done on space and roominess. In this respect, in Spain we will now have the option of the CR-V with 7 seats, with legroom in the third row that guarantees the comfort of the occupants. In addition, the boot increases its capacity to 561 litres, with a height-adjustable floor in two positions.

In terms of technology and safety, the new Honda CR-V has also been updated, incorporating, among other things, the latest generation of the active safety and driver assistance package Honda Sensing, as well as the second generation of Honda Connect, which allows a full integration of our smartphones with the vehicle, along with the standard installation of the My Honda app, through which we can interact with the CR-V to check or perform various safety, assistance and information functions.
Moving on to the mechanical side, first of all its dynamics have been improved thanks to the use of a new chassis that provides a more engaging drive without sacrificing comfort. In addition, customers who opt for the 4×4 versions will find a CR-V that has improved its off-road capabilities, thanks to greater ground clearance and the latest update to the Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System, which improves its adaptability to all types of terrain while also enhancing efficiency.

There are also new features under the bonnet. First of all, the Honda CR-V will arrive in Spain in October with a single engine available: the 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo petrol engine, which can deliver 173 CV and a torque of 220 Nm, or 193 CV and a maximum torque of 243 Nm. The first option is linked to the six-speed manual gearbox and the second to the CVT automatic transmission, with the option of 4×4 traction.
It should be said that later on, specifically during the first quarter of 2019, the 2.0 i-MMD hybrid engine will join these two options. It is an Atkinson-cycle engine with 2,000 cc that uses two electric motors, making it the first engine of this type to be installed in this model.
