The new Suzuki GSX-S 1000: Hamamatsu renews its maxinaked with more power, new technology and styling

Suzuki continues to introduce new features into its motorcycle range, now with the complete renewal of its GSX-S 1000 maxinaked, which arrives with more power

That the Suzuki motorcycle range needed a renewal was a fact, and at Hamamatsu they have gotten to work to measure up to their rivals, focusing especially on the larger-displacement models that require a greater technological endowment, as we have already seen with the Katana or, not to go too far, with the reborn Hayabusa. Now it is the turn of the GSX-S 1000, the maxinaked that takes the sporty GSX-R 1000 as its reference.

It is immediately clear that the new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 receives a novel and striking styling, especially at the front, dominated by a new headlight composed of two vertically arranged lights, accompanied by the daytime running light in the highest position, all of them LED, as is the rear light. From this front view we can also observe the angular and muscular lines, in which stand out some fins inspired by those carried by the GSX-RR of MotoGP. This whole look can be chosen in three colours: Metallic Triton Blue, Glass Mat Mechanical Gray and Glass Sparkle Black.

Mechanically the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 continues to use the 999 cc inline four-cylinder engine, which, as regulations require, is now adapted to Euro 5 thanks to the revision it has undergone, and which now also allows its power to rise to 152 CV at 11,000 rpm along with 106 Nm at 9,250 rpm, now offering greater torque delivery from lower down, which we will surely be able to make much better use of thanks to the quickshifter, which allows both upshifting and downshifting without using the clutch.

As is now customary, all this power can be kept under control at all times thanks to the technological equipment of the GSX-S 1000, grouped in the electronic systems package Suzuki Intelligent Riding System (S.I.R.S.). This package of systems includes the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), Suzuki Traction Control, “Ride-by-Wire” Electronic Throttle, Bidirectional Quick Shifter Assistant, Suzuki Easy Start and Low RPM Assist System; all these systems and much more information can now be viewed through a new LCD screen.

The renewed four-cylinder engine is enclosed by an aluminium double-spar chassis, to which is attached a double-sided swingarm, which, incidentally, is derived from the GSX-R 1000. The rider sits in an elevated position for improved comfort, and will find handlebars positioned 20 mm closer and 23 mm wider to allow better control; below these is an inverted fork signed by KYB with fully adjustable 43 mm legs, while at the rear there is a progressive monoshock link type adjustable in rebound and preload. Contact with the ground is made through new-design wheels with Dunlop SPORTMAX Roadsport2 tyres and, finally, braking is handled by Brembo, with front four-piston 32 mm calipers working on 310 mm discs.

The new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 is expected to reach Spanish dealerships at the beginning of July, with a starting price of 13,695 euros.
