The new version of the Porsche Taycan is being tested on circuits and shows that the mid-life changes are not only aesthetic and surprising.

New times are coming for mobility, and Porsche is no stranger to it. Preparations are already underway for the arrival of the electric Macan, but a reinterpretation of its only electric model to date, the Taycan, is also on its way. This model has already passed the halfway point of its lifecycle and has become a highly sought-after car. For this reason, it is time to visit the design studio and present a new face.

But it will not be just a reinterpretation of its bodywork and an update to its equipment. A variant that will sit above all the others currently on the market is also set to arrive. It is a version that, for now, is known as the Taycan Turbo GT.

From what has been seen of the prototypes undergoing testing on circuits around the world, the aesthetic changes will be minimal. These changes have not been confirmed, since several types of test vehicles have been spotted. The bodywork changes could be some of those we have seen on them or something entirely different.

What is expected is changes to the headlights, redesigned bumpers and a larger front air intake. Improvements to the batteries are also expected, with a higher energy density. The software in the vehicle will also improve battery energy management. With all of this, the range of the Taycan is expected to increase to 600 kilometres under the WLTP cycle.

New ADAS systems will also be incorporated to improve driving safety. The infotainment system will also be updated. That said, the 800-volt architecture on which this model is built will remain the same. It offers a charging capacity of 5 to 80% of the battery capacity in just 22.5 minutes.

The new Turbo GT version

As for the new version, which will become the top of the range, it is expected to feature three electric motors. This configuration has already been seen in other models, so it has proven capable of delivering very strong performance. This model could offer more than 1,000 CV, compared with the 761 CV (531 kW) currently produced by the Taycan Turbo S.

This model is expected to have some elements that set it apart from other variants. A larger rear spoiler, a redesigned front bumper with an integrated splitter and a larger diffuser may be some of those distinctive differences, ready to deliver major changes. Carbon-ceramic brakes will help keep that exaggerated power under control and will set it apart from other versions of the Porsche Taycan.
