Xiaomi announces at MWC Barcelona its intention to sell its vehicles globally from 2027
Everything seems to indicate that both Xiaomi’s SU7 -including its high-performance Ultra version- and the upcoming new electric SUV from the Chinese brand will reach the European market in the coming years.
The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has for the first time shared details about its future plans regarding the possible sale of its electric models outside its home market. The company’s president, William Lu, has taken advantage of the Mobile World Congress 2025, currently taking place in Barcelona, to reveal that the company he leads aims to begin selling its electric vehicles in international markets from 2027.
This annual event held in Barcelona, which brings together the main manufacturers of mobile devices and companies related to communications, has also served Xiaomi to announce the launch in the Chinese market of the high-performance version of its, for now, only electric model. We are obviously referring to the SU7 Ultra.

Rumors about the possible sale of Xiaomi vehicles outside China began to emerge at the end of last year, as we already told you here at HighMotor. At that time, some reports claimed that the Chinese manufacturer had begun forming specialized teams with the aim of pursuing a limited launch before focusing on major markets in a second phase.
Those reports now seem to be confirmed by the latest statements from the brand’s head in Barcelona. Lu has said that they will soon begin exploring the European market, where they plan to introduce both the SU7 Ultra and the more affordable lower versions of this model, in addition to the brand’s upcoming electric SUV, the YU7.
Slow and steady
The launch of Xiaomi vehicles outside China will therefore be a gradual process, and their large-scale global sales will not occur until 2027. Lu has placed special emphasis on making it clear that the brand’s current priority is to consolidate itself in China. Without a solid foundation, he has stated, it will be difficult to grow outside our own market.

The company’s caution about making the leap to international markets responds, in the words of the brand’s head himself, to the initial doubts that arose when Xiaomi announced its intention to sell its first electric vehicle. At that time, four years ago, not everyone received this news with enthusiasm. Investors were the most skeptical, since some of them feared that Xiaomi had arrived late to an already enormously competitive market. They also feared that a possible failure in a project of such magnitude could end up affecting the company’s core business: mobile phones.
The launch of the SU7 in China in March 2024 turned out, however, to be an unprecedented success. The record sales and the acceptance this model has had and is having in China dispelled many of the investors’ initial concerns, which has given Xiaomi greater confidence to face its global expansion outside its own market. In any case, not getting carried away by initial euphoria and maintaining caution does not seem like a bad strategy.
