BMW accelerates the commercial launch of the iX3 in North America to meet high demand
The iX3 SUV is an absolute sales success in the European market, and everything suggests it will enjoy the same success in North America.
BMW’s North American division has decided to bring forward the launch of the first model of the Neue Klasse in that market, in response to demand that has completely exceeded forecasts. Although the official start date for deliveries in the United States was originally set for September 25, 2026, several dealerships have already begun delivering units several days early. The only version available at the North American launch is the 2027 50 xDrive, with all-wheel drive, a starting price of $61,500 and an EPA range of up to 434 miles.
In Europe, deliveries have been underway for months. On this side of the pond, the iX3 is offered in two versions: the 50 xDrive with all-wheel drive and, since late May, the 40 with rear-wheel drive. The iX3 is the first model of the Neue Klasse, the new electric generation of BMW. All current production comes from the Debrecen plant (Hungary), including the units destined for North America, which are then shipped across the Atlantic. Starting in 2027, a line in Mexico will be added. In China, a long-wheelbase version built locally was launched in August.

As we have recently reported here at HighMotor, the Hungarian plant has just moved from two to three shifts and now operates practically around the clock. BMW states that the capacity increase was completed in about eight months, the fastest start-up of a new plant in the group. Series production began shortly after the October 2025 opening; a second shift was announced in March, and the third arrived in September 2026. Europe alone already has 100,000 orders on record.
iX3 specifications for the North American market
For the American market, BMW quotes a range of between 383 and 434 miles, 463 hp and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.7 seconds. The battery pack of the launch version is 112.2 kWh. DC fast charging reaches 400 kW and can recover up to 231 miles in ten minutes; on AC, the maximum is 15 kW. It is also worth noting that the iX3 50 xDrive includes bidirectional charging: V2L at 2.4 kW, V2H at 3.6 kW and V2V at 7.7 kW, so the battery can power electrical equipment, another vehicle or even a home. In the medium term, this capability will also allow energy to be returned to the grid during peak hours and absorbed when there is surplus renewable generation.
