BYD confirms its intention to take its Flash Charging ultra-fast charging stations outside China
With this initiative, BYD seeks not only to strengthen its presence in other regions, but also to position itself as one of the world leaders in the transition to high-efficiency electric mobility.
The Chinese carmaker BYD has confirmed that it will bring its innovative Flash Charging charging network to third countries outside China. The rollout will begin in Australia and New Zealand, where the first stations will be operational before the end of the year. This technology represents a major leap in electric vehicle charging, allowing extremely short charging times, so that the process can be completed in practically the same time it takes to refuel a combustion-engine vehicle at a petrol station.
The opening of the first ultra-fast charging stations Flash Charging in Australia and New Zealand will also be accompanied by the start of sales in both markets during the third quarter of this year of the Denza Z9 GT. This model, a fully electric luxury shooting brake, is one of the first BYD vehicles aimed at the global market equipped with the second generation of the Blade battery. This battery is specifically designed to make the most of Flash Charging chargers, offering an incredibly fast and efficient charging experience.

In Australia, the initial rollout will begin in October with three Flash Charging stations located at Denza dealerships in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. Subsequently, the network will be extended to other points of sale BYD. In New Zealand, the first chargers will also be installed at Denza dealers, although the exact locations and initial number have not yet been revealed.
In Europe we will also see Flash Charging stations
This expansion is part of an ambitious global plan, which will lead BYD to follow the same steps in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region in the coming months. The company’s goal is to have 6,000 Flash Charging stations operational in international markets over the next twelve months, with half of them concentrated in Europe.
As we already told you here at HighMotor, during the presentation of the Denza Z9 GT for the European market last April, BYD also unveiled its new Flash Charging chargers, capable of delivering up to 2 MW. In this way, one of these units can charge two vehicles simultaneously at 1 MW each or deliver up to 1.5 MW to a single vehicle. In the case of the European Z9 GT, with a 122 kWh battery, it is possible to increase the state of charge from 10 to 70 percent in just five minutes, and from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes. Charging times that now practically match those needed to refuel a combustion-engine vehicle at a petrol station.

In China, where the technology is already very advanced, BYD has more than 5,500 operational Flash Charging stations distributed across 311 cities. The company is rapidly updating the vehicles of all its brands so that they are compatible with this ultra-fast charging technology, as it recently demonstrated with the launch of the Flash Charging version of the BYD Han EV.
