The Peugeot 2008 is the brand’s offering for the urban crossover segment. A vehicle whose attributes make it perfect for the city and, at the same time, give it the ability to leave the tarmac on off-road terrain. For this reason, the lion brand has equipped the 2008 with the Grip Control system, which optimises traction in low-grip conditions, such as wet grass or mud.

This technology acts on the front driven wheels, regardless of the scenario. Grip Control is activated via the rotary dial located on the centre console. The driver can choose from one of the five available driving modes, which limit the transfer of engine torque to the front axle and manage braking depending on the terrain.

Grip Control operates in four modes, as follows: Standard mode, intended for normal road conditions without grip problems. Snow mode instantly adapts the traction control of each of the two driven wheels to the existing grip conditions. When the car exceeds 50 km/h, the system automatically switches to Standard mode. All-terrain mode allows smooth progress over slippery terrain such as mud or wet grass. It ensures the vehicle starts off in these conditions by transferring the maximum possible torque to the wheel with the most grip. It works like a limited-slip differential, adapts perfectly to driving on tracks, and remains active below 80 km/h. Sand mode maintains slip on both driven wheels simultaneously to allow progress over soft ground and limit the risk of getting stuck in sand. This mode works up to 120 km/h and switches to Standard mode if that speed is exceeded.

Finally, ESP Off mode gives the driver the option to fully disconnect the stability control and Grip Control, up to 50 km/h, and manage traction independently.

This system works thanks to the application of electronic elements in the vehicle, without the need for mechanical systems. This gives rise to one of its main advantages: since the weight of the new Peugeot 2008 is not increased, users can enjoy Grip Control without this implying an increase in fuel consumption.

On the Peugeot 2008, this system is available as standard on the Allure trim level, with the following engines: 1.6 VTi 120 CV, 1.6 e-HDi 92 CV and 1.6 e-HDi 115 CV.
