MG HS PHEV 2025: the British brand launches the cheapest PHEV on the market from €36,900

MG makes things even easier, a plug-in hybrid with a ZERO emissions label, 339 CV of power and 100 kilometres of range that can be yours for €26,990

In 2024, MG celebrates a century since its founding, when William Morris and his partner opened the first dealership in England, giving rise to a brand that continues to evolve today. To commemorate its 100 years, MG has decided to revolutionise its range with significant improvements to its best-selling models, among them the HS PHEV, a compact SUV that has accumulated more than 10,000 units sold in Spain since its launch in 2021.

The new MG HS PHEV features a 21.4 kWh battery that surpasses the previous 16.6 kWh unit, allowing it to double its electric range, now 100 km, compared with the previous 52 km. This increase earns it the coveted “ZERO emissions” label and makes it the first compact SUV eligible for up to €7,000 in aid from the Moves III programme supporting electric mobility. Although this improvement brings a slight reduction in boot capacity, from 448 to 441 litres, MG maintains a solid proposition in space and versatility for this family model.

Innovations in exterior and interior design

It measures 4.67 metres long, 1.66 metres high and 1.89 metres wide, with a wheelbase of 2.750 m. On the outside, the redesigned HS stands out for its contemporary and functional design. The 19-inch alloy wheels are now standard on all versions, and the new grille with black chrome details gives it a modern and robust appearance. In addition, the brand has chosen to remove the front logo from the grille, placing it now on the bonnet, in line with the latest design trends. At the rear, the X-shaped lights and the continuous LED strip add a modern touch, while the roof incorporates rails and a discreet rear spoiler.

Inside, the HS adapts to today’s technological needs. The luxury versions include wireless charging and two configurable 12.3-inch screens, and all keep the physical button panel for quick access to essential functions. The boot in the petrol version, designed with family use in mind, offers a capacity of 507 litres, while the plug-in hybrid version is at 443 litres and allows hands-free opening.

With the launch offers and the Moves III aid, you can now get a plug-in hybrid with a ZERO label at the same price as an ECO-labelled car. This model starts at €36,990 for the Confort trim, but with launch discounts and aid it can be obtained for a modest €26,780. The Luxury trim will cost €3,000 more than the Confort, reaching €39,990, which would drop to €29,990 with the launch promotions.

Improved technology and performance

MG has raised the quality of its 360-degree cameras, essential for manoeuvring in the city, while the iSmart Lite app allows drivers of the PHEV plug-in hybrid version to monitor their vehicle from their phone. As for safety, the HS now includes as standard 14 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), two more than the previous version, and adds rear traffic alert to give the driver greater peace of mind.

The plug-in hybrid version of the HS combines a 1.5 turbo petrol engine producing 105 kW with a 135 kW electric motor, generating a total power output of 339 CV. This combination allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and an outstanding electric range, surpassing rivals such as the 70 km of the Kia Sportage, the 62 km of the Hyundai Tucson or the 65 km of the Ford Kuga. With CO₂ emissions of just 14 g/km, MG positions itself in the market as a highly attractive and affordable option among compact PHEVs.

New petrol version for those seeking a modern classic

For those who prefer a traditional combustion option, MG has launched a new petrol version equipped with an improved 1.5 turbo petrol engine producing 125 kW and 275 Nm of torque. With a top speed of 195 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds, this option is ideal for those seeking an agile and efficient SUV. Moreover, the 3.3% reduction in engine weight compared with the previous version contributes to its efficiency and performance.

This version, however, does not benefit from any government aid, but it does have a financing promotion and a launch discount which together amount to €4,000 off. The model can be obtained for €25,990; otherwise, the Confort trim starts at €29,990. The Luxury trim, as in the PHEV version, would cost an extra €3,000, starting at €28,490 with aid and €32,490 without aid.
