Ranking 2026: the 6 electric compacts with the most efficient battery and the best warranty on the Spanish market

We analyse the six 100% electric compacts that best combine real battery efficiency and warranty coverage you can buy in Spain in 2026

The electric compact segment has matured. What three years ago was a race to add range on the WLTP sheet is now played out on a different level: how many kWh the car really consumes every hundred kilometres and how much residual capacity the manufacturer guarantees once eight years have passed. Two variables. One ranking.

From the list of initial candidates we have discarded the BYD Dolphin/Atto 3: in our view, both the perceived quality of the cabin and the driving experience feel a step below its direct European and Korean rivals in this range, and on editorial grounds we prefer to focus the analysis on proposals that hold up better in head-to-head comparison. With that clarified, let us move on to the six that do qualify.

How we built the ranking

Two axes. The first, energy efficiency: homologated WLTP consumption in kWh/100 km and comparison with the real-world consumption observed in tests by specialist media. The second, backing: years and kilometres of the vehicle’s general warranty and, separately, the specific warranty on the traction battery, with the percentage of residual capacity covered (normally 70%). A compact that uses little energy but does not protect the battery beyond the legal minimum loses points. And vice versa.

The “from” prices correspond to the official tariff in Spain at the start of 2026, before applying the Plan Auto+ —the current framework of public aid for buying electric vehicles, whose exact amount is worth checking on the official website because it is adjusted periodically—.

1. Kia EV3 — from €27,905

The Korean is, in my view, the most rounded proposal in the ranking. Not because it is the most efficient in absolute figures, but because it combines a contained WLTP consumption (around 14.9 kWh/100 km in the Standard Range version) with the most generous warranty in the segment: seven years or 150,000 km on both vehicle and battery, with 70% residual capacity coverage. Nobody else gets there.

In the real world, the EV3 moves comfortably below 16 kWh/100 km in mixed use, something we already saw in the detailed analysis of the EV3 as a family car. Sober interior, correct ergonomics, and a platform that knows how to stretch the kWh.

Renault Megane

2. Renault Mégane E-Tech — from €34,574

The French car does something quite rare: it weighs less than almost all its competitors (around 1,624 kg) and that shows in its consumption. With its 60 kWh battery, it homologates close to 15 kWh/100 km and in practice sits around 15.5 in real mixed cycle. The general warranty is five years or 100,000 km, and the battery rises to eight years or 160,000 km with 70% capacity guaranteed.

That said, the boot is short and cabin height is not its strong point. Its efficiency, on the other hand, is textbook.

3. Peugeot e-308 — from €37,040

The e-308 is the most “car-like” electric compact in the ranking. Let us explain: it hardly differs from a combustion 308 in presence, and for many users that is worth its weight in gold. Its 54 kWh battery and 156 CV motor give a WLTP consumption of 12.7 kWh/100 km, the lowest figure in the whole comparison. In the real world it hovers around 14–15 kWh/100 km depending on use, something we already analysed in the full review of the e-308.

The warranty follows the Stellantis standard: eight years or 8 years/160,000 km for the battery, five years or 100,000 km for the vehicle if it is serviced at official workshops.

034 The New Cupra Born Hits The Roads With Pure Electric Performance HqCUPRA Born

4. Cupra Born — from €38,000

The Born shares the MEB platform with the ID.3, but tunes the suspension setup and steering calibration differently. It is quick, yes, but it is not enjoyed as it should be on open roads because of its weight —it exceeds 1,800 kg in the 77 kWh version—. WLTP consumption of 15.9 kWh/100 km in the 58 kWh usable variant. Vehicle warranty of two years with no mileage limit plus three optional additional years, and battery with eight years or 160,000 km at 70%.

5. Volkswagen ID.3 — from €37,520

The ID.3 has been ironing out flaws from the first series (software, material quality) and today is a solid proposal without being brilliant. The Pro version with 59 kWh usable homologates 15.4 kWh/100 km and offers 427 km WLTP. Vehicle warranty of two years plus three additional years up to 100,000 km and battery with eight years or 160,000 km, the VAG group standard.

MG MG4

6. MG4 — from €35,315

Price rules. The MG4 enters the ranking because, with 12.4 kWh/100 km WLTP in the 64 kWh Standard version and a general warranty of seven years or 150,000 km —extendable on the battery—, it offers coverage that is hard to match, which with aid comes close to €30,000. In the real world it hovers around 16.5–17 kWh/100 km, which is not outstanding, but it does not aim to be when it is the cheapest in the group. In the duel with the Leapmotor B10 we already saw that the MG stands out precisely on backing.

Frequently asked questions

Which electric compact offers the best combination of efficiency and warranty in Spain in 2026?
The Kia EV3, for combining a WLTP consumption of 14.9 kWh/100 km with seven years or 150,000 km of warranty on both vehicle and battery. It is the only brand in the ranking that matches the general coverage with the battery coverage.

Which electric compact has the lowest homologated consumption in the ranking?
The Peugeot e-308, with 12.7 kWh/100 km WLTP thanks to its 54 kWh battery and a motor tuned for efficiency over performance.

What percentage of residual capacity does the battery warranty of these models cover?
The segment standard is 70% capacity after eight years or 160,000 km. Kia and MG also apply it to their seven years/150,000 km. It is the usual industry reference for considering a battery to be “in good condition”.

Is it worth paying more for a car with a better warranty if it consumes slightly more?
It depends on annual mileage. For users who drive more than 20,000 km/year or plan to keep the car for more than six years, the extended warranty of Kia or MG offsets the extra cost compared with rivals with standard coverage. For urban use with low mileage, the efficiency of the Peugeot e-308 or the Mégane E-Tech weighs more.
