Suzuki SV-7GX, the new Japanese sport-touring motorcycle unveiled at EICMA

Suzuki has been present at EICMA showcasing its new mid-displacement crossover, the SV-7GX, developed from the SV650 naked bike

The crossover, those motorcycles that take the best of both “sport” and “touring” worlds, are in fashion, as Suzuki is clearly demonstrating on this occasion during the EICMA show in Milan with the new addition we will see soon in its lineup: the SV-7GX, a motorcycle developed from the SV650 but borrowing certain styling traits from its bigger sibling, the GSX-S1000GX, which they presented at the beginning of 2024.

Suzuki describes its new SV-7GX as a motorcycle that combines technology, design and a handling characteristic of a naked, a type of motorcycle usually known for its agility, but which at the same time will be as comfortable and ergonomic as a tourer, thanks to the upright riding position the rider can adopt at all times, making it a bike to enjoy on twisty roads yet able to cover long distances without any worry.

Aesthetically, the new Suzuki SV-7GX takes the GSX-S1000GX as its reference, with sporty lines that powerfully catch the eye, partly due to the half-fairing it carries, and it can be chosen in the colors Pearl Brilliant White combined with Metallic Triton Blue, Pearl Matte Greige paired with red wheels, and the Glass Sparkle Black tone. At the front it features an eye-catching dual-function LED headlight perfectly integrated with the rest of the fairing, while at the rear the tail light sits right behind the seat, leaving the pillion seat itself rather ridiculously small.

It is equipped with hand guards to help both rider protection and aerodynamics, something the slightly inclined windscreen, adjustable in three positions, also works on, behind which sits a 4.2-inch color TFT display that allows selecting different display modes as well as connectivity through the Suzuki Ride Connect+ app available for both iOS and Android, through which we can access turn-by-turn navigation, weather and traffic alerts, speed warnings, and call or calendar notifications. Additionally, we can connect devices through the easily accessible 5V/3A USB-C port installed.

Its chassis begins with the characteristic frame of the SV family of Suzuki, that is, a steel tubular frame that provides great rigidity and a low center of gravity. At the front axle Suzuki has fitted a 41 mm telescopic front fork and, at the rear, a rear monoshock with seven levels of preload adjustment. We must not forget the front braking system with twin 290 mm discs and four-piston calipers, with a single disc on the rear axle with a single-piston caliper, all working with the ABS system fitted as standard. By the way, the Suzuki SV-7GX comes standard with 17-inch wheels.

It is worth highlighting, as we said at the beginning when discussing the main features of the Suzuki SV-7GX, that the rider sits in a comfortable, upright position for riding hundreds of kilometers without excessive fatigue, something made possible by the installation of a tall aluminum handlebar positioned closer to the rider and wider compared to the SV650’s, specifically measuring 740 mm. Furthermore, the seat has been redesigned to be more comfortable for both rider and passenger, all with a moderate seat height of 795 mm from the ground.

Mechanically, the Suzuki SV-7GX is powered by the 90º V-twin engine of 645 cm³ that produces 73 CV at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 64 Nm at 6,800 rpm. This engine is an old acquaintance of the Japanese brand, known for its reliability, punch and smoothness, which has been evolved to feature an electronic throttle, three riding modes and a three-level traction control, in addition to being linked to a six-speed gearbox with a Quick Shifter that allows upshifting and downshifting without using the clutch. With a total weight of 211 kg and a generous 17.4-liter fuel tank, the SV-7GX records a consumption of 4.2 liters/100 km, which undoubtedly helps it achieve excellent range.
