The Electric GT Series is finalising details and revealing official data on the Tesla competition car

The Electric GT Series is just a few months away from starting its activity, and we finally know technical details about the participating Tesla Model S P100DL

However much we may deny it, it is impossible to avoid the future of automobiles heading towards electrification and, consequently, the world of motorsport following suit. This is how we find ourselves, at least for the time being, with championships running parallel to the conventional ones, such as Formula E, and from next year, MotoE will be part of MotoGP at some rounds of its calendar.

To all these electric championships we will have to add one more from next autumn: the Electric GT Series, a championship that should have kicked off last year but has been delayed due to various setbacks. For this championship, all participants will take part with the Model S from Tesla, duly prepared for competition, a model we saw undergoing the FIA crash tests earlier this year.

Now that the necessary certificates from the FIA have been obtained and the date of the first race is known, which will be, barring a surprise change, the 3rd of November at the Jerez circuit, Electric GT, the organiser of the competition, has revealed the first official figures for the Tesla Model S P100DL that will be used to take part in this competition. This is a model that, despite having clear improvements over any Model S that may be on the roads, does not change excessively from what any Tesla customer is driving at the moment.

The Tesla Model S P100DL, which is what it has been renamed for this competition, delivers a power output of 585 kW (778 CV) with a torque of 995 Nm, equipped with a 100 kWh lithium battery, which allows it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 2.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. These figures are achieved not only through a larger battery, but also through a weight reduction of 25% in the drivetrain alone, along with the removal of components unnecessary for competition, bringing the overall weight to around 1,600 kg.

These are not the only improvements made, as you can see it features an aerodynamic kit made of carbon fibre which, at high speed, provides downforce of 51 kg at the front and 92 kg at the rear. The suspension has also been modified to provide the necessary stability, in addition to an FIA-homologated roll cage, a fire extinguisher, competition seats and competition tyres supplied by Pirelli, 18 inches in diameter, with the front tyres 265 mm wide and the rear tyres 305 mm wide.

Now that we know a little more about the Tesla Model S P100DL, all that remains is to see it in action, with the 20 units that will take part in Jerez and which, incidentally, include Spanish driver Dani Clos among the participants. It should also be said that, in support of the Electric GT Series, we will see the eKarting Series, which uses electric karts, as well as virtual eSports races.
