The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4Matic+ becomes the most up-to-date Safety Car in Formula 1
Formula 1’s new safety car is an improved version of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4Matic+, celebrating 30 years of collaboration with F1.

Over the last 30 years, Mercedes-AMG has been the brand chosen to serve as Safety Car at Formula 1 races. And this new season will be no different. A unit of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4Matic+ replaces the AMG GT Black Series, which has performed this role in 51 races from 2022 to 2026.
There are improvements in aerodynamics and equipment, although the most significant change to this adapted model is the lighting system. The bulky roof bar has been removed and in its place LED lights have been installed on the customised rear spoiler with cameras. It also includes dimmable LED strobe lights on the front bumper, as well as on the front and rear headlights.

The car features orange lights, which prevent competing cars from overtaking it, while the green lights allow overtaking, as they signal that the track is clear. Furthermore, aerodynamics have been improved compared to the road version, as it has been fitted with an aerodynamic package.

Among these modifications, a more pronounced front splitter, aerodynamic wings, the active spoiler already mentioned, and modified lower body panels to improve airflow have been added. A new exterior design has also been prepared to celebrate 30 years of collaboration between Mercedes-Maybach and Formula 1.
The intense black colour enhances the vehicle’s image, complemented by red graphics, the sponsor’s brand CrowdStrike, and several emblems celebrating the anniversary on the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler. Inside, the driver sits in a Recaro seat with a six-point harness and a roll cage that protects them.
Opposite the passenger seat is a large screen, and it is equipped with radio and GPS equipment. The fuel it uses is Petronas Primax Pro-Race M2 100-octane. It has been formulated with 40% sustainable components, including 10% ethanol and 30% eFuel.
Engine and all-wheel drive
The engine powering this Safety Car is an 8.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 604 CV and a maximum torque of 850 Nm. Power is delivered through a 9-speed AMG Speedshift MCT gearbox and the variable 4Matic+ system. This makes it the first all-wheel-drive safety car to take part in the competition.
The vehicle is equipped with the full range of AMG technology, including an Active Ride Control chassis, huge carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston front calipers, and forged alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero R high-grip tyres.
