If there is one thing we are starting to miss in the world of sports cars, it is undoubtedly naturally aspirated engines. That and a manual gearbox. But today we are going to talk about one of the purest sports cars on the market, the Toyota GT86. This vehicle -alongside its sibling, the Subaru BRZ- is one of the few cars that offers everything a sports car of yesteryear used to deliver. Even so, Toyota has decided to improve it for the coming years and make it even more fun.

The Toyota GT86 inherits the philosophy of the first Japanese sports cars. It stands out as a light, fun vehicle, with rear-wheel drive and a front-mounted engine. Without a doubt, the GT86’s territory is not drag racing, but a road with twisting bends. The Japanese brand has decided to introduce some improvements to its most cherished sports car.

The styling remains faithful to what we saw with the facelift of 2017. It adds improvements to the lighting units through the addition of LED headlights, a redesigned front bumper and rear diffuser, and a considerable upgrade in the materials used for the interior. The new features are found in something even more important, its mechanics.

The powertrain remains the same naturally aspirated 2.0-litre boxer engine that delivers 200. Thanks to this, the GT86 manages to reach 100 km/h in just seven seconds and has a claimed top speed of 220 km/h. This makes it one of the fastest in its segment , and the fun is guaranteed in any corner thanks to its great weight distribution and well-engineered chassis.

But the Japanese brand thought that going fast is not the only thing that matters, and that is why it decided to improve the brakes. The 2018 GT86 will feature a braking system signed by Brembo, and it will be standard on all versions of the model. It will have four-piston calipers on the front wheels and two-piston calipers on the rear. The discs will measure 326 x 40 mm at the front and 316 x 40 mm at the rear. This element will considerably improve the GT86’s performance.

At the same time, the sports car from Toyota has included since 2017 a new driving mode called Track, which ensures that the electronic aids intervene as little as possible. For now, these are the details about the new GT86, which will begin production next year and has a starting price of €34,490.
