Volvo begins accepting orders for its new EX60 electric SUV in the United States

Global demand for the EX60 is so high that Volvo was already considering expanding production at its Swedish plant even before opening orders in North America.

Following its European launch at the start of the year, Volvo has now officially presented the EX60 for the North American market, opening orders for this electric SUV to American customers. This model, which is positioned in the most sought-after segment of the market, has a base price in the United States of $58,400 -to which transport costs must be added-.

The Swedish brand, under the control of Chinese giant Geely, plans to make the first deliveries in this market towards the end of this year. In a first phase, interested buyers will be able to choose between the P6 and P10 all-wheel drive (AWD) versions, while the more powerful P12 AWD will be available somewhat later.

According to Volvo, the EX60 is the electric vehicle with the longest range in its history. The P12 version will be able to cover up to 400 miles on a single charge -about 644 km- under the EPA homologation cycle; the P10 will slightly reduce this figure to 322 miles -about 518 km-, while the entry-level P6 version promises an EPA range of 307 miles -494 km-.

Cutting-edge technology

The EX60 is based on the new SPA3 platform, developed specifically for electric vehicles. This platform incorporates advances such as the cell-to-body integration of the battery, electric motors designed by Volvo, a new cell format and megacasting. Thanks to these technologies, the brand achieves greater production efficiency, better scalability and a significant reduction in costs, in addition to achieving the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo electric vehicle to date, comparable to that of the small EX30.

This electric SUV also stands out for its 800-volt architecture, thanks to which it can withstand charging peaks of up to 370 kW. In this way, under optimal conditions it is possible to recover up to 173 miles -278 km- of range in just ten minutes. Likewise, to increase the charge from 10 to 80 percent, only 16 minutes are needed in the P6 and P10 versions, compared with the 19 minutes required for the P12 version.

Another notable point is that the EX60 is the first Volvo to come as standard with the NACS charging port, which allows the vehicle to connect directly to any Supercharger in the extensive network of stations that Tesla has in North America. Volvo has had access to Tesla’s Superchargers since 2024, but until now all of its vehicles had to use a CCS1-to-NACS adapter.

As for the price of this new Volvo electric SUV, as we have already said, the entry-level P6 version is available from $58,400, while the P10 AWD Plus starts at $60,750. Higher-spec Ultra trims will also be available at a somewhat higher price. In Canada, meanwhile, this model has also gone on sale, although initially only the P10 version is offered.
