BMW adds a second shift on the iX3 assembly line to meet high demand

The Bavarian manufacturer has managed to attract the attention of a good number of customers with its first model of the Neue Klasse. The clearest proof that things have been done right.

BMW has ramped up production of the first model of the Neue Klasse at its Hungarian plant in Debrecen, moving to two shifts instead of one, with the aim of meeting the high level of demand recorded, which has exceeded the Bavarian firm’s initial expectations.

This news, confirmed by the company itself in a press release, comes as no surprise at all, since BMW has spent months warning of the growing volume of orders it is receiving for its new electric SUV. Company management is pleased with the expected sales success of the new iX3 and believes its market launch demonstrates the soundness of the chosen strategy: betting on innovative technology and a renewed design language.

The very high demand for the iX3 confirms, they say, that pioneering spirit, innovation and boldness pay off; and they also point out that this new model is attracting both private customers and fleet companies, and is even winning over many drivers who had never before opted for a BMW. This reinforces its success.

The beginning of a new era for BMW

The iX3 was presented in September 2025 and series production began in October at the new Hungarian plant in Debrecen, dedicated exclusively to the production of electric vehicles. The first deliveries to customers and prominent figures took place in January, as we already told you here in HighMotor, while general sales began at the start of this March.

Following the success of the iX3, the second model of the Neue Klasse will not be long in reaching the market. The i3, a saloon from the BMW 3 Series, whose production will take place at BMW’s main plant in Munich in the second half of this year, will be the Bavarian firm’s next bet. Its official presentation will take place next week.

With the launch of this new generation of electric models, the company hopes to maintain and increase the good results already achieved in 2025. The BMW group as a whole closed last year with a pre-tax profit of over 10 billion euros, while the group’s net profit remained above 7 billion, in line with the previous year.

Revenue, however, reached 133,450 million euros, a decrease of 6.3 percent compared with the previous year. The company attributed this decline to fierce competition in the sector, especially in China, and to negative currency exchange effects on currencies such as the US dollar, the Korean won and the Chinese yuan.
