The world of sports saloons is working remarkably well in today’s market. Without a doubt, the ability to carry your whole family and take to the track at full speed is very tempting. Several cars fulfil this role, but if there is one that we must single out above the rest, it is undoubtedly the BMW M5. There have been six versions of this model so far, and today we bring you a video in which we can enjoy the sound of each of them.

The BMW M5 has been on the market since 1984 and to this day has been a real success in its segment. It is a saloon with performance worthy of a supercar, and not only in terms of power, but also in its results on the track. Today the six generations have come together to give a concert and we can enjoy the sweet melody emanating from their engines.

The first M5 of all is the E28. As we already told you, it was in 1984 that it arrived and today it is one of the most sought-after models from the German marque. Its arrival on the market was a real revolution and the public loved it. Inside it was an inline six-cylinder engine with direct injection that produced 286 CV of power and 340 Nm of torque. This made it one of the fastest vehicles of its time.

The M5 E34 took over the baton and arrived with a more understated styling while still maintaining the essence of the more radical 5 Series. Initially it had a 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine producing 315 CV, but later this was replaced by a more powerful 3.8-litre unit with 340 CV. Even so, the radicalism did not end there, and BMW unveiled the M5 E39 in 1998.

This new version took a considerable leap forward and housed a powerful naturally aspirated V8 producing 400 CV. Its heavenly sound filled the roads on which it travelled but, without a doubt, its successor also fulfilled that role. The M5 E60 is one of the most radical vehicles the German firm has designed to date.

Beneath the bonnet of the E60 slumbered an all-powerful naturally aspirated V10 delivering 507 CV directly to the rear axle. The melody produced by the engine, together with the vehicle’s sportiness, has made it one of the most desired M5s. But in 2011 the successor to the E60 arrived, the so-called F10. This new version of the BMW M5 abandoned the naturally aspirated engine for the first time and featured a powerful turbocharged V8 producing 560 CV.

Since then, the M5’s mechanical characteristics have continued along the same path and the current F90 uses the same powerplant but now develops 600 CV and features all-wheel drive that offers the option of converting it to rear-wheel drive. But what interests us most in today’s article is the sound of each of these vehicles. Without a doubt, every single one of them produces a sound that captivates any lover of engines, which is why we cannot bring ourselves to choose just one. Which one would you pick?
