We had already seen the first images, but the MG Marvel R Electric now reveals its technical specifications. The new SUV from MG, which will reach dealerships after the summer, has just opened its order books, with prices starting at 40,000 euros for the entry-level versions, rising to 50,000 euros for the most luxurious variants with 4×4 traction. The final prices of each variant will be revealed shortly before their arrival on the market.

Let’s take a closer look at the features of this new all-electric SUV from MG, the British brand now owned by the Chinese giant SAIC.

Marvel R Electric: MG’s new “flagship”

In terms of exterior size, the Marvel R Electric competes in a segment that will soon have more than one contender, when MG’s SUV reaches the market. It measures 4.67 metres long, 1.92 wide and 1.62 high. These dimensions are similar to those of a Audi Q4 e-tron, a Ford Mustang Mach-E or a Nissan Ariya, to name a few examples.

In terms of size, price and also finishes and equipment options, the Marvel R Electric is the top model in the MG range, which already includes another SUV, in this case a plug-in hybrid: the MG EHS PHEV. Alongside a modern exterior design that stands out for its very clean and flowing silhouette, the Marvel R Electric adds an elegant and technological cabin, in which virtually the entire floating central console is a touchscreen, reaching 19.4 inches.

From this screen you control the MG iSMART system, which lacks nothing in the latest infotainment functions and connectivity services. It has a Wi-Fi hotspot, mobile phone integration via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, navigation with real-time traffic information… Voice control, over-the-air updates and an app to control remote functions, such as charging management or a route planner, are also included.

MG will offer three trim levels, Comfort, Luxury and Performance. All of them will feature the MG Pilot driver assistance package, which integrates, among many others, the emergency lane-keeping assist and a system that alerts the driver to drowsiness or inattention.

4×2 or 4×4 traction with up to three motors and 402 km of range

The Marvel R Electric will be available with two mechanical versions. The rear-wheel-drive variant has two electric motors on the rear axle, which deliver a system output of 180 CV and a maximum torque of 410 Nm. Enough for the electric SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

In the case of the all-wheel-drive version, a third motor is added on the front axle, raising system output to 288 CV, with a maximum torque of 665 Nm. Acceleration here is that of a true sports car, dropping below 5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. In both cases the top speed is limited to 200 km/h.

In both the 4×2 and the 4×4 variant, the battery has a capacity of 70 kWh, which allows a range of 402 km on the WLTP cycle for the two-motor version, and 380 km for the three-motor 4×4 variant. Both include a heat pump and an 11 kW on-board charger, and allow fast charging with direct current, needing about 40 minutes to reach 80% capacity.

The boot capacity in both versions is 357 litres, expandable to 1,396 litres by folding down the rear seats. In the 4×2, there is also an additional 150-litre storage compartment under the front bonnet.

Like models such as the new Hyundai IONIQ 5, the Marvel R Electric also includes the V2L function, a technology that allows the car’s battery to supply energy to an external electrical device, whether an electric scooter… or even another electric car.
