Porsche could be developing a 911 focused on driving sensations

Porsche appears interested in applying the layout used, for example, in the Porsche Cayman GT4 to the 911, where a track car homologated for road use can give the driver a rush of sensations through a purer driving experience. This translates into high performance, optimised cornering without electronics interfering excessively with its job and, above all, a driver who can interact with the machine through a manual gearbox.
According to information provided by Autocar, Porsche is already preparing a GT version of the 911 aimed at offering a purer approach for the high-performance car market. On the other hand, the new version would not reach the level of the RS, a car designed specifically for the track, but would focus on delivering maximum sensations and constant interaction with the driver.

This new Porsche 911 is expected to use the narrow bodywork of the entry-level models, giving up the wider bodies used by the GT3 and the GT3 RS, as well as aerodynamic add-ons such as splitters or spoilers that improve the car’s aerodynamic downforce. Porsche intends to offer a setup with limits that are easily accessible and enjoyable, so the new GT model in the 911 series could fit narrower tyres (something already seen on the Toyota GT86 and the tyres used by the Prius) and probably a manual gearbox.
Mechanically, the 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine of the 911 GT3 seems the most interesting option when it comes to chasing sensations. The next generation of turbo engines, which will arrive alongside the restyling that Porsche will introduce on the 911 at the end of the year, is not expected for this new version. As for the name, rumours suggest that the brand’s recent acquisition of the GT5 name would be the perfect suffix.
