Stellantis will debut the STLA Small platform with the renewed Peugeot e-208

With greater range, an innovative interior and the honour of debuting Stellantis’s new STLA Small platform, the French manufacturer’s urban electric car is set to lead its category in 2027.

Peugeot plans to update its most popular city car with the second generation of the e-208, a model that will have the honour of debuting Stellantis’s STLA Small platform. The use of this new platform will allow the French manufacturer to increase the capacity of the battery pack in this new generation of the e-208, thereby offering a range that will exceed 500 km under the WLTP homologation cycle.

The first-generation Peugeot 208 has been available since its market launch in 2019, both with a combustion engine and with a fully electric propulsion system. The next generation of this city model from the French manufacturer will, however, be exclusively electric, and its production will start at the end of 2026 at the Spanish plant in Figueruelas, Zaragoza.

The market launch of the second generation of the 208 with an exclusively electric version, under the e-208 name, will not, however, mean the removal from the manufacturer’s range of the combustion-engined versions of the first-generation 208, which will remain on sale for some time to meet demand in certain markets where the transition to electric mobility is not as advanced.

The new electric Corsa is also on its way

The new Peugeot e-208 will be the technological flagship of Stellantis’s B-segment, debuting a new platform and significant technical improvements. Months later, in 2027, it will be followed by the new electric Corsa, which will likewise benefit from all these innovations. The Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo prototype, presented last September at the IAA Mobility held in the German city of Munich, was an early preview of what we can expect from the new generation of the Corsa. It is speculated that this new electric model could be fitted with a battery pack of just 37 kWh in the entry-level version, which would increase to 82 kWh in the top-of-the-range version.

Furthermore, an improvement in the charging power supported by the new generation of electric city cars from the various brands of the Stellantis group is also expected, which would affect both the new e-208 and the new electric Corsa. Let us recall that the current generation of these models supports up to 100 kW at a DC fast-charging point.

As regards the exterior design of the new e-208, everything points to it growing slightly in dimensions, adopting the design language we have already seen on the new 3008, 5008 and 308. Meanwhile, the interior renovation of this model will be even more radical, inspired by the “Polygon” concept that Stellantis will present this November. According to some unconfirmed leaks, this new concept is based on a driving position without a physical steering column, betting on the innovative steer-by-wire technology, with the incorporation of a new rectangular steering wheel and a large floating horizontal screen that will give the vehicle a much more futuristic feel.

How much will it cost?

Finally, it should be noted that the entry-level version of the new e-208 is expected to have a price similar to the current one, available from just over 24,000 euros. However, the use of Stellantis’s new STLA Small platform will open the door to the marketing of more versions with a higher level of equipment and, consequently, with a price also higher than those currently on offer.
