The Chinese brand GAC is growing in Europe and wants to sell 50,000 units in 2027

GAC wants to establish itself in Europe with several of its electric models and hopes to add a plug-in hybrid version to its catalogue later on.

Chinese brands continue to arrive in the European market, and they are doing so with growing intensity. One of the latest to begin sales in our markets is GAC, which is starting its rollout in Europe these days. Its plans are quite ambitious, as it has set itself the goal of reaching sales of 50,000 units in 2027.

To achieve these figures, it will strengthen its line-up with several models that already run in China and have been prepared to meet the tastes and needs of European drivers. Its initial range will consist of the GAC Aion UT, the GAC Aion V, the GAC Aion Y and the GAC Hyptec HT. All three models are electric, although the arrival of a plug-in hybrid variant is not ruled out, in line with what other brands are doing.

For GAC’s CEO, Wei Haigang, Europe is one of the most important markets for the future of the brand, and he hopes our region will become one of the most important pillars of the company’s international business. These three models offer vehicles across three very important segments in Europe.

The GAC Aion UT is a compact car, ideal for getting around the city and making short trips. The GAC Aion V is a mid-size SUV, and the GAC Aion Y takes the form of a crossover. At the top of the range is the GAC Hyptec HT, a coupé-style SUV that will be offered to Europe’s most demanding customers.

From 3,000 units in 2025 to 50,000 in 2027

Throughout this year 2025, 3,000 units have been sold, although sales are expected to reach 15,000 units in 2026. Expectations for 2027 rise to 50,000 units. Although these figures promise very large growth, in reality it is not that large when compared with the sales increase it has had in China. In 2024 it managed to sell 2,003,058 units, of which 127,000 corresponded to international markets.

This growth target faces a major obstacle: the tariffs applied to vehicles arriving from China. To avoid this, GAC is planning manufacturing in Europe, so it will soon have a production partner on the continent.

For the moment, the brand that has grown the most in Europe has been BYD, although we know that others, such as MG, Jaecoo, Omoda and other manufacturers are increasing their presence in several European markets.
