The demand for the new electric GLC is exceeding Mercedes-Benz's expectations

The new electric GLC from Mercedes-Benz is proving that when a manufacturer offers compelling performance and a truly premium product, the market response tends to be overwhelming.

If in a recent post we told you about the extraordinary reception that the new BMW iX3 is receiving, even before reaching dealerships, the new electric GLC from Mercedes-Benz seems to be enjoying the same success.

According to a recent report, the enormous effort made by the Stuttgart-based firm in developing this electric SUV, which debuts a new platform and includes first-class technological innovations, is now paying off, to the point that the company is currently overwhelmed by the huge level of demand it is registering.

Presented at the IAA Mobility in Munich last September, the new electric GLC is already available to order in Europe. Getting hold of one of these electric SUVs will not be an easy task, however, for anyone who decides to place an order now, since according to the company itself, orders already exceed the planned production volume until well into the second half of this year.

The first-class technical specifications of the new electric GLC seem to have convinced a good number of customers, who have decided to place a reservation even before being able to see it in person. Its WLTP range of over 640 km, the maximum supported charging power of 330 kW, or the less than 24 minutes needed to charge from 10 to 80 percent, are without a doubt more than convincing reasons to sign the reservation.

At full capacity

To meet the rising demand for this model, production at the Bremen plant already runs three full shifts, including Saturdays. Nevertheless, should this still not be enough, Mercedes-Benz does not rule out increasing production using other of its plants. All of this in order not to waste the good reception this model is achieving, after several years of results below the expectations placed on other electric models in Mercedes-Benz’s EQ family.

Following the initial launch in Europe, the first deliveries of the GLC 400 4Matic in the United States are expected to take place at the end of the year, while to see the more affordable version, the GLC 300+, on the streets and roads of North America, we will have to wait until early 2027. For now, prices for these versions in the North American market have not been confirmed, but for reference, in Germany the GLC 400 4Matic is available from 67,717 euros.

This version features two electric motors delivering 355 kW of power and just over 800 Nm of torque. The specification sheet for this model is completed by acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. For its part, the entry-level GLC 300+ has a single electric motor on the rear axle producing 271 kW and 503 Nm of torque. Both versions stand out for their efficiency, good range and short charging times, positioning them as very competitive options against their direct rivals in their segment.
