Ford Mustang Mach-E: more towing capacity for the electric SUV
Ford announces an update for the Mustang Mach-E that increases towing capacity, reduces battery charging time and improves ride comfort.

Electric cars, and to a lesser extent plug-in hybrids, usually offer a lower towing capacity than combustion-engine cars, or they are not even approved for towing at all. The main reason is not technical, but has to do with the most sensitive point of battery electric vehicles: range. It is estimated that the distance an electric car can cover on a single charge can be halved when towing a caravan. And until sophisticated thermal management systems were gradually incorporated into electric cars, there were also concerns about the integrity of the motor and batteries under the extra strain of pulling a caravan.
Greater towing capacity and shorter charging time
In the case of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the brand has just announced that it increases braked towing capacity to 1,000 kg in versions equipped with the extended-range battery, both for rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models. With this improvement, Mustang Mach-E owners can, for example, tow a small or medium-sized boat, which was not possible before.

Until now, the stated towing capacity was 750 kg. Even so, the Mustang Mach-E remains far behind the electric SUVs with the greatest towing capacity on the market, where the BMW iX with its 2,500 kg, or the Tesla Model X with more than 2,600 kg maximum towing weight, dominate. Several already reach 1,800 kg, such as the Audi e-tron, the Mercedes EQA and EQC, or the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
Other improvements included in the update that Ford announces for the Mustang Mach-E include a reduction in charging time from 52 to 15 minutes to go from 80% to 90% capacity, as well as a recalibration of the one-pedal driving function, which allows the accelerator to control the intensity of regenerative braking and reduces the use of the brakes.
