Full specifications of the Tesla Cybercab revealed

Official data disclosed by the EPA reveal the Cybercab’s technical specifications: Tesla’s robotaxi is lighter than a Model 3 and has a range of close to 480 km.

Tesla has just taken an important step forward that brings it a little closer to the day when large-scale production of the Cybercab, its two-door robotaxi, becomes a reality. In compliance with regulations, the company has submitted the official documents to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), an essential requirement for turning it into a mass-production vehicle.

Thanks to this information, we now know key technical details of the model. The Cybercab weighs 3,113 pounds -approximately 1,412 kg-. This is about 700 pounds -318 kg- less than the lightest Model 3. This figure places it among the lightest electric vehicles on the scale. An essential factor for achieving the highest possible efficiency.

On the other hand, its gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is 3,730 pounds -1,692 kg-, which gives it a payload capacity of about 617 pounds -280 kg-. Although this is a modest value for a passenger car, it is reasonable for a compact two-door robotaxi. Two average adults with hand luggage should travel comfortably without exceeding the limit.

As for performance, the Cybercab is equipped with a front-mounted permanent-magnet electric motor that delivers up to 163 kW of power. It is important to note that Tesla had initially announced that this model would have no steering wheel or pedals, as it is designed to be autonomous, although the test prototypes do incorporate them.

Range close to 500 km

To ensure sufficient range, the Cybercab is equipped with a 146 Ah battery at 326 volts, which equates to approximately 48 kWh of capacity. In laboratory tests under the EPA cycle, the vehicle managed to travel about 418 miles per charge, that is, around 673 km. However, the EPA applies an adjustment factor (generally around 0.7) to reflect real-world conditions, which places the estimated range at around 293 miles -about 472 km-.

These data confirm that the Cybercab will be a light, efficient vehicle with good range for its segment, exceeding weight expectations for an electric vehicle. Nevertheless, two big unknowns remain: the actual market launch date and its final price.
