Mercedes-AMG has the new GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and GLS 63 4MATIC+ ready
Following the launch of the base versions, Mercedes-AMG now pulls out all the stops with the refresh applied to the GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and GLS 63 4MATIC+

At the beginning of April, Mercedes-Benz unveiled with great fanfare the facelift received by both the GLE and the GLS, changes that are now being applied to the Mercedes-AMG versions and that remind us that, after the upheaval caused by the disastrous design of the four-door GT Coupé, there are still people in the German brand’s performance division who know how to do things right.
Aesthetically, and building on the changes made a few months ago, the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and GLS 63 4MATIC+ first receive a new front grille with the typical AMG design, as well as larger air intakes to deliver better cooling to the engine block, to which we must add the new light assembly with an exclusive AMG light signature. At the rear, the diffuser integrated into the bumper confirms that these are sporty versions and fits perfectly around the exhaust pipes of the AMG Performance system. Customers will also be able to choose from a selection of wheels up to 22 inches on the GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and up to 23 inches on the GLS 63 4MATIC+.

Inside, as is customary in Mercedes-AMG models, there is a blend of luxury, high-quality materials and sportiness throughout. Driver and passengers are greeted by sports seats that can be upholstered in everything from Nappa leather Exclusive to Nappa Exclusive Style in various colours, including those from Manufaktur, which will be combined with AMG inserts in carbon or aluminium finish, the microfibre headliner and the latest-generation AMG Performance steering wheel with buttons that allow activation of the most relevant performance functions.

Mechanically, the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ and GLS 63 4MATIC+ begin to feature the M177 EVO engine which, compared with its predecessor, includes improvements such as a flat-plane crankshaft, a modified intake camshaft, an optimised fuel injection system, a latest-generation exhaust aftertreatment, optimised injection system, new intake and exhaust ports, a revised intake camshaft, and improvements to the compressor wheel and turbocharger housing. All according to Mercedes-AMG, to optimise throttle response, increase efficiency and harmonise power delivery.

It remains a V8 engine that maintains a power output of 612 CV and a torque of 850 Nm available between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm, complemented by mild-hybrid technology that includes a 2.0 integrated starter generator (ISG), which adds 23 CV and 205 Nm of torque, and an additional 48-volt electrical system. Thanks to this configuration, the GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds while the GLS 63 4MATIC+ does so in 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 280 km/h for both models. The sound of this engine is handled by the new AMG Performance exhaust system with exhaust valves.

Both models feature the AMG Ride Control+ suspension with air suspension and adaptive dampers, which adjust continuously and automatically to the driving situation. As if that weren’t enough, thanks to the air suspension the body can lower its height by 10 mm in Sport and Sport+ modes, while in Comfort mode it is also lowered by the same amount when speeds exceed 120 km/h and, for negotiating poor-quality roads or ramps, ground clearance can be increased by 20 mm at the touch of a button. We should also not forget that both models come as standard with the AMG active roll stabilisation system and the AMG rear axle locking differential.
