EBRO demonstrates the efficiency of the S400 HEV and the S700 HEV on a Madrid-Barcelona route

Two of EBRO’s models, the S400 HEV and the S700 HEV, have completed a round trip between Madrid and Barcelona to demonstrate that they are efficient on long journeys.

EBRO wanted to show that its full hybrid models are not only practical and useful for urban mobility, but can also be very efficient on long routes, such as the one proposed for its S400 HEV and S700 HEV. To do so, they completed a route that took these two vehicles from Madrid to Barcelona and back to Madrid.

With this test, they were able to check the real consumption of these two models and offer a glimpse of how both SUVs perform in real driving conditions. It was not a direct journey; several intermediate stops were made to reproduce, as realistically as possible, what a trip between the two cities is like in everyday life.

Among the stops made along the route were Fraga, Castelldefels, the EBRO Factory and Calatayud. The route used fast roads, with changes of pace, gradients, variable traffic and always with set arrival times. The aim was not to achieve extreme driving, but to check the real consumption offered by each of these models in real traffic and everyday use conditions.

With the rechargeable hybrid system, the EBRO S400 HEV recorded a consumption of 4.2 litres per 100 kilometres. The EBRO S700 HEV, for its part, recorded 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres, modest figures that show the efficiency of the hybrid system they are fitted with.

Hybrid models do not usually enjoy a good reputation on long journeys compared with other technologies. However, this test came in below the figure quoted by the brand, which is 5.3 litres per 100 kilometres for the S400 HEV and 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres for the S700 HEV.

Two efficient models

The EBRO S400 HEV features a 1.5-litre DHE combustion engine and a 150 kW electric motor, delivering 211 CV. It is paired with a DHT automatic gearbox. It has a 430-litre boot and a length of 4.32 metres, an ideal size for urban mobility without sacrificing the ability to travel between cities.

As for the EBRO S700 HEV, it offers the same combustion engine but with two electric motors and an NCM battery of 1.83 kWh. It is 23 centimetres longer, reaching 4.55 metres. With a full tank, its range is around 900 kilometres, very practical for long journeys.

A battery electric vehicle requires an efficient, well-placed charging infrastructure, whereas the full hybrid system avoids these long charging times and offers all the advantages of a conventional combustion-engined car, but with much lower consumption.
