Porsche unveils its new 975 RSE single-seater for the upcoming Formula E season

With the 975 RSE, Porsche aims to remain at the forefront of a championship that is evolving rapidly and demonstrates the potential of electric mobility both on the track and on the road.

For the 2026/27 season, Formula E will take an important step forward with the introduction of the new fourth-generation single-seaters, and Porsche aims to maintain its dominance in this competition with the new 975 RSE.

Formula E presented the Gen4 single-seaters last November. Although the spirit that defines this competition remains intact -with an identical chassis for all teams, a common battery and most suspension components also identical-, each manufacturer will have the freedom to develop its own software, the electric powertrain, the rear motor and the rear suspension system.

With the 975 RSE, Porsche Motorsport has demonstrated its ability to adapt to these new regulations. One of its most important innovations is permanent all-wheel drive. The front axle, supplied by Lucid, delivers 250 kW, while the rear system developed by Porsche reaches 350 kW, for a total of 600 kW. In addition, the new homologated chassis generates greater aerodynamic downforce, enabling acceleration superior to that of a Formula 1 car and speeds above 300 km/h, with peaks expected of up to 335 km/h.

The best of Formula E is yet to come

To balance performance and efficiency, two different aerodynamic packages have been prepared: one with low downforce and lower drag for races, prioritising energy saving, and another with high downforce for qualifying, where the car’s maximum potential is sought.

According to the engineering team at Porsche Motorsport, although the 99X already exceeded 97 percent efficiency in the powertrain, with Gen4 the focus has shifted towards weight reduction, durability and costs, similar to what happens in road electric vehicles. The 975 RSE thus offers 71 percent more maximum power than its predecessor, while numerous components have also been lightened.

“The regulations force us to maximise efficiency in every aspect, which helps us transfer technology to production cars. Races will be more exciting with noticeably faster cars and an impressive acceleration.”
